April 2, 1935
The news of the death of Stanley Dix,
Kaukauna high school senior as result of pneumonia occurred at his home
Saturday evening. Stanley was a young man with more than ordinary merit, having
participated in football, basketball and track activities during his years in
high school.
April 5, 1935
Frank F. Cornelius, 50, Kaukauna, died in a
Green Bay hospital of influenza, Wednesday evening. He was the last chief in
the Turtle clan of the Oneida Indians, which family claimed an unbroken line of
chiefs for the past 600 years. A year ago, his brother Chester P. Cornelius
died in Oklahoma.
Anton “Casey” Jansen was defeated as
president and supervisor of the village of Little Chute in the election Tuesday
by John Vande Yacht.
April 12, 1935
Miss Germaine Kalupa was named
valedictorian and Miss Jennie Goldin was named salutatorian of the
Kaukauna high school 1935 senior class. Miss Kalupa maintained an average of
95.09 and Miss Goldin an average of 94.96 through their high school careers.
Kaukauna bowlers can take their hats off to
Henry Minkebige, who on Tuesday evening bowling at Hilgenberg alleys,
completely shattered all previous city bowling records when he turned in a 707
series to set a new city mark. Henry has no handicap in the league.
April 19, 1935
Little Chute – Mrs. Theodore Niehaus, age 56
years, passed away this morning the result of severe burns suffered early
Thursday morning. Mrs. Niehaus attempted to light the furnace at the time of
the accident.
April 26, 1935
Unemployment and excellent
fishing throughout the Fox river valley have brought thousands of people to
enjoy springtime fishing.
Thirty youths from the area left this week for
the Civilian Conservation Corps at Trump Lake near Wabeno. The five from
Kaukauna selected were Richard Chopin, Jacob Lennert, Kenneth Roberts, Lester
Spice and Herman Turk. Little Chute enrollments were Albert Kobussen and
William Van Toll.
Little Chute - Frank Hermsen was appointed day
marshal and Erest J, Miron, Sr., night marshal at a meeting of the village
board Tuesday evening.
April 30, 1935
Wrightstown – Three Wrightstown high school
students had a narrow escape from injury Monday evening when the car in which
they were riding came close to leaping into the Fox River when the bridge was
open to allow a boat to pass through. The students Ervin Garrity and Betty
Vanderheiden were coming down the hill onto the bridge which was open and hit
the chain strong across the road. They stopped a few inches from the opening.
The car was badly damaged, and the students suffered minor injuries.
