By Lyle Hansen KAHS

March 6, 1946

James W. Lang, former director of public relations at Loyola University, New Orleans, and a former instructor at Kaukauna High School, has been added to the Kaukauna Times staff. C. J. Hansen, editor, announced today that Lang will serve in the advertising and news departments. Recently discharged from the Navy the new Times man returns to his home city after an absence of more than five years. He entered the Navy in July of 1942, served as a communication officer at the headquarters of the Caribbean Sea frontier and later commissioned to a new vessel at New Orleans.

Glen Miller has been connected with the most every type of organization in Kaukauna and this section of the state as president general manager for more than 10 years. He recently accepted it a position with the Chicago Cubs organization. He will leave soon to assume the duties as the business manager of the Fayetteville, North Carolina, Cubs farm team. One of the most discussed subjects on the streets, in Barber shops and Taverns and other places in which residents of the City of Kaukauna congregate is the newly proposed council management plan of government. Some people think this proposed plan is just another step toward the totalitarian form of government so popular in Europe.

There is a movement here in Kaukauna for a change to the city management form of government. The city would be governed by a seven-man council, and the wishes of this council will be carried out by the appointed manager. There will be business meetings just like the present council meetings, twice a month plus special meeting. Supporters claim the system would run the city as a business. This system would be fair to all the citizens and end politics in decision making process.

Saint Mary's school reports 176 pupils were neither absent nor tardy during the last six weeks.

Kaukauna may someday become a tax-free city, Dr. W. C. Sullivan, former Kaukauna mayor, told a public meeting of about 200 citizens who gathered in the civic auditorium Tuesday to hear the aldermanic form of government defended. Oshkosh mayor George F. Oakes charged the city manager government as dictatorial and undemocratic and urged the citizens not to vote out the tried and tested mayor-alderman system in next Tuesdays referendum.
