The Kempen brothers, John and Raymond are both spending a leave from service at home in Kaukauna. Raymond Airman third class is home from boot camp at Lockland AF base San Antonia, Texas. John is a third-class petty officer in the navy is serving as a cook on the USS Tutuila.
Marine Pvt. John J. Hengel of Kimberly has
completed individual combat training at Camp Pendleton, Cal.
The undefeated Kaukauna Ghosts track team swept
to its fourth straight victory with an 82-26 win over Menasha, at the Kaukauna
track. Paul Kiffe swept to a triumph in
the 220-yard dash, Bob Promer put the shot 51 feet 10 inches and Dan Minkebige
grabbed top laurels in the 880 yard run.
May 6, 1966
“Some Enchanted Evening,” the theme chosen for
the 1966 Junior Prom, highlighting the school’s major social event this
evening.
A crowd of three hundred from Holy Cross parish
honored Sister Jeanne D’Arc, principal of the school, for the last six years.
She will be reassigned this summer.
May 11, 1966
Miss Frances Nelson will receive a
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing on May 21 from Commencement Convocation
at the College of Saint Teresa, Winona, Minn.
May 18, 1966
Army Captain Burton C. Bice received an
official certification of Achievement at the United States Army Security
Training Center.
Kaukauna is the home of the world’s largest
plant devoted to the exclusive manufacture of heavy-duty drilling machines and
the public is invited to visit G & L on Sunday. One of the most fascinating
demonstrations will be that of a tape operated drilling machine.
May 20, 1966
Mrs. John Mau was elected vice president of the
Wisconsin Jaycettes at Green Bay.
At Goodland Field in Appleton on Sunday May 22
an event called “High School Day” will be held. Football trophies will be given
to Joe Schaefer of Little Chute St. John’s and Bob Promer of Kaukauna high
School. The basketball trophy will be awarded to John Reider of Kimberly High
School.
Lynda Damro was chosen president of the 1966-67
student council in an all-school election, last Friday. Joan Van Wychen was
named vice-president.
May 25,
1966
The Kaukauna Klubbers won their opener in the
Fox Valley league with a 4-2 win over Fond du Lac. Leigh Wachel pitched three hitter for the
win.
Dan Bay has been named the outstanding freshman
athlete at Stevens Point university. Bay saw considerable action as a guard on
the football team and was a regular on the wrestling team at 177 pounds. He
lettered in both sports and participated in track.
Edward Hammen of Little Chute is
currently teaching and coaching at St. Peter Claver high school in San Antonio,
Texas as his service in the Catholic Lay Mission Corps. Recently one of the
boys he coaches, Clarence Johnson, set a national schoolboy record with a leap of
7 feet ¼ inch. The boy is featured in the May issue of Sports Illustrated. Hammen is a 1960 graduated St. John high
school and a 1964 graduate of St. Norbert college with a major in history.
May 27, 1966
President Robert Pendleton will open the annual
Class Night exercises in the Auditorium Tuesday Night, with words of welcome
and presentation of his classmates.
A PLAQUE recognizing more than 14 years of service as scoutmaster
of St. Mary's Boy Scout troop 27 was presented to Louis Schultz at the court of
honor held at St. Mary's cafeteria Monday evening. The award was presented by

AN AWARD from the U.S. Dept. of the Treasury was presented to
Sister M. Henrianna, principal of St. Mary’s school, last week for “Patriotic
service in support of the U.S. Savings Bond program.” The certificate, signed
by Henry H. Fowler, secretary of the treasury, was presented for her work in
directing a Savings Stamp program in the school. Postmaster Robert Grogan
conferred the award. The Savings Bond program covers $49 billion, or 23 per
cent of the national debt.

THE EAGLE SCOUT AWARD was presented to Lee Wittman at the Court of Honor for boy
scout troop 27 held Monday evening in St. Mary's cafeteria. The award to
Wittman marked the 35th eagle scout to be presented the Eagle while Louis
Schultz was scoutmaster. Shown are, left to right, Schultz, Wallace Mooney, who
presented the award, Mrs. Harvey Wittman, Lee Wittman, Mr. Harvey Wittman and
Howard Veldman, new troop 27 scoutmaster.
MISS RUTH WOLF, left, who is retiring as city treasurer, turned over the
weighty city budget book to her successor, Mrs. Elaine Brown, at the Municipal
building Friday. The secretaries and other women employees on the second floor,
the "woman's world of the city hall," brought two cakes and a gift to
make a little party for Ruth. Last night the city council passed a resolution
citing Miss Wolf's dedicated service to Kaukauna and thanking her for loyal
service to the community.
