January 6, 1965
Alan Landreman slammed the 171 game and rolled
a 301 two game series to pace the teenage beginners’ league at the Bowling Bar.
Seaman recruits Dennis Zwiers, 18, USN Little
Chute and seamen Dennis Wulterkins, 18, Kimberly have completed basic training
at the naval training center at Great Lakes Illinois.
Army second Lieut. David Kons, Little Chute,
was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley Kansas. The
22-year-old officer is a 1960 graduate of Little Chute High School and 1964
graduate of St. Norbert’s college, DePere
Robert Verbeten rolled 256 singles and fired a
637 series in the south side businessmen’s league at Verbeten’s bowling alley.
January 8, 1965
Trophies from the recent Holy Cross Holiday
basketball tournament are shown being presented to the winner. Left to right

A general leveling off in building activities
throughout the Fox Valley area extended to the city of Kaukauna during the past
year as total billing costs dropped under the $1 million mark for the first
time since 1961.
Airman Robert
J. Niesen, Kaukauna, has completed Air Force basic training at Lackland
AFB, Texas. Airman Niesen is a 1963 graduate of Kaukauna High School.
January 13, 1965
Ronald Weyenberg, Sarah Street,
Kaukauna is now stationed at the army’s Fitzsimons General Hospital, Denver,
Colorado, and is a staff member of the weekly newspaper at the hospital.
Janet Hansen blasted a 193 singleton and Elaine
Merrill fired a 513 series to pace the members of Verbeten’s Wednesday night
ladies league.
Roger Leick shelled a 234 singleton and Bill
Robach ripped a 567 series to pace the league at the Bowling Bar.
The Kaukauna Galloping Ghost cagers had the
Blue Jays of Menasha High School running scared in the first half in Friday
night's match as they outscored their host in the opening minutes but trailed
by one point at halftime. The Blue Jays came back strong in the second half to
take a 73 to 52 win over the Ghosts.
January 20, 1965
The Kaukauna public library has been named as
recipient of a $4200 grant from funds made available by the Library Services
and Construction act, according to Richard Rademacher, Kaukauna librarian.
William Rogers, Democratic
assemblyman from Kaukauna, is presently serving on three standing committees at
the state assembly in Madison. He is Vice Chairman of the public welfare and
serves on the Labor and Elections committees.
Catherine Baumgart posted a 606 national honor
account and the Thursday night ladies league at the Bowling Bar on January 14,
firing games of 215, 193 and 198.
The Kaukauna Ghost wrestling team annexed its
second Mid-East conference victory and its third win of the season Thursday
evening as they defeated the defending conference champions New London Bulldogs
33 to 22 at New London. The Ghost copped seven victories, five of which came on
pins and two on decisions.
The Kaukauna Ghost cagers had a close game on
their hands for one quarter leading only by one point but opened up to a 14-point
margin in the second stanza and never looked back as they led 30 to 25 at
halftime. They continued to control the game, defeating the New London team
89-81. Mike Andres led the Kaw attack with 28 points, Don Biselx
added 17 points and Wayne Steinbach 13 points.
January 22, 1965
The Kaukauna Galloping Ghost wrestling team was
defeated by Preble 37 to 5 when they met recently, in non-conference action.
The ghosts now have an overall record of three wins, three losses and one tie.
Mayor Joseph Bayorgeon told the Rotary Club
Wednesday that Kaukauna is in good shape financially. “But a year or two of
recession could put us and other cities in this serious situation,” he
stated.
Tobin Siebers, 12, Eden Ave., Kaukauna pulled
his younger nine-year-old brother Robin out of the Fox River about 4:30 Sunday
afternoon. Robin sank to his neck and started swimming while his brother ran to
him, laying down on the ice and reached out to help him from the water. The two
boys then hurried home to a hot bath from their mother. Neither boy is any
worse for their experience.
January 27, 1965
Peter H, Voet, Kaukauna, completed his Basic Combat
Training on January 15, 1965, at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
Although Kaukauna came out on the short end of
the tilt with Kimberly Friday night, 63 to 54, the ghosts lead 12-9 at the end
of the first period of play and trailed by one point at halftime. Kaukauna now
has a 3-4 standing in the Mid-East conference.
The Kaukauna galloping ghost wrestling team
garnered its third victory in the mid-east conference and its fourth of the
season as they defeated the Kimberly Papermakers and removed them from the
unbeaten ranks. The triumphant on Thursday evening allowed the Ghosts to move into
undisputed lead in the conference without a defeat.
January 29, 1965
Ruth Feldkamp, the 1965 Kaukauna “Queen of
Hearts” had a big smile for, left to right, Dr. George Behnke, Dr. David
Grunwaldt and Mayor Joseph Bayorgeon when the Heart Fund drive committee met.
Four-year-old Ruth is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Feldkamp Kaukauna. She
was “blue” baby born with congenital heart defect and suffered from other
medical problems. She underwent open heart surgery in November of 1962 and was
on a pacemaker for a week. Her recovery was remarkable and was able to join her
family after three weeks. Next September, Ruth will enter kindergarten.
Donna Borchardt, a senior, has been
named the winner of the DAR award at Kaukauna High School. She is carrying a
full academic schedule and being involved in many outside activities helps keep
her busy. Donna’s future plans are to
attend the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and major in music education.
