About 200 fans attended three interesting
basketball games played Friday evening at the high school. The main event was a
game between Kaukauna High School girls and Little Chute. The locals won 5 to 3
after a hard battle which took two overtime periods to decide. The line-up for
the Little Chute included Grace Doyle, Agnes Williamsen, Jessie Van Handel,
Cecil Gerrits and Ada Vandenberg. Kaukauna’s team was composed of Eva Metoxen,
Anna Toman, Alice Burke, Genafavo Frank and Mary Schmidt.
Last year seven Kaukauna young men took
advantage of the free training and spent a month at Camp Custer. They were
Gilbert St. Mitchell, Joseph “Doty” Bayorgeon, Herbert Haas, Norbert Noie, Jack
Tullock, Bill Winge and Roy Darling. These lads were highly enthusiastic about
their experience. It is expected that
many more local boys will take advantage of the program again this August.
The Electric City men won $156.84 in the state
bowling tournament in Fond Du Lac. The team tied for third place. Henry
Minkebige, Allan Peterson, Frank Hilgenberg, Paul Smith, William Johnson, Carl
Hilgenberg and T. Lambie.
Bill Smith’s high school basketball team held to
true form Thursday afternoon and defeated West Green Bay, by a score of 11 to
9, in the second game of the tournament at the Appleton Armory.
Behold! Five beauteous steppers of the Follies
chorus who proved themselves apt teachers of their art when called upon to give
instructions to members of the cast in Columbia University. The cast were all men,
but they learned a good deal about graceful footwork and high kicking from the
fair maidens.
The cement work on Kaukauna’s bridges between
Island Street and Wisconsin Avenue are rapidly nearing completion according to
Jos. McCarty of the McCarty Construction Company.

The world’s longest telephone circuit is
between Chicago and Los Angeles – 2000 miles. A talk to Chicago over the
telephone for ten minutes would cost about ten dollars. Nowhere but in America
is any such telephone service rendered.
