May 4, 1966
The
Kempen brothers, John and Raymond are both spending a leave from service at
home in Kaukauna. Raymond Airman third class is home from boot camp at Lockland
AF base San Antonia, Texas. John is a third class petty officer in the navy is
serving as a cook on the USS Tutuila.
The
undefeated Kaukauna Ghosts track team swept to its fourth straight victory with
an 82-26 win over Menasha, at the Kaukauna track. Paul Kiffe swept to a triumph in the 220-yard
dash, Bob Promer put the shot 51 feet 10 inches and Dan Minkebige grabbed top
laurels in the 880 yard run.
April 6, 1966
“Some
Enchanted Evening,” the theme chosen for the 1966 Junior Prom, highlighting the
school’s major social event this evening.
A
crowd of three hundred from Holy Cross parish honored Sister Jeanne D’Arc,
principal of the school for the last six years. She will be reassigned this
summer.
April 11, 1966
Miss Frances Nelson will receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing on May 21 from
Commencement Convocation at the College of Saint Teresa, Winona, Minn.

Army
Captain Burton C. Bice received an official certification of Achievement at the
United States Army Security Training Center.
Kaukauna
is the home of the world’s largest plant devoted to the exclusive manufacture
of heavy duty drilling machines and the public is invited to visit G & L on
Sunday. One of the most fascinating demonstrations will be that of a tape
operated drilling machine.
April 20, 1966
At
Goodland Field in Appleton on Sunday May 22 an event called “High School Day”
will be held. Football trophies will be given to Joe Schaefer of Little Chute
St. John’s and Bob Promer of Kaukauna high School. The basketball trophy will
be awarded to John Reider of Kimberly High School.
Lynda
Damro was chosen president of the 1966-67 student council in an all-school
election, last Friday. Joan Van Wychen was named vice-president.
April 25, 1966
The
Kaukauna Klubbers won their opener in the Fox Valley league with a 4-2 win over
Fond du Lac. Leigh Wachel pitched a
three hitter for the win.
Dan
Bay has been named the outstanding freshman athletic at Stevens Point
university. Bay saw considerable action as a guard on the football team and was
a regular on the wrestling team at 177 pounds. He lettered in both sports and
participated in track.
Edward Hammen of
Little Chute is currently teaching and coaching at St. Peter Claver high school
in San Antonio, Texas as his service in the Catholic Lay Mission Corps.
Recently one of the boys he coaches, Clarence Johnson, set a national schoolboy
record with a leap of 7 feet ¼ inch. The boy is featured in the May issue of
Sports Illustrated. Hammen is a 1960
graduated St. John high school and a 1964 graduate of St. Norbert college with
a major in history.
April 27, 1966
President
Robert Pendleton will open the annual Class Night exercises in the Auditorium
Tuesday Night, with words of welcome and presentation of his classmates.
A
court of honor Monday for Boy Scout Troop 27 became a testimonial for Louis
Schultz scoutmaster from 1951 to 1965. During his years as leader he saw 35
boys obtain the rank of Eagle Scout and 24 were on hand to extend
congratulations as he was presented a plaque for his service. The 35 boys who
became Eagle Scouts during Schultz’s leadership include Ronald Belongea, Dennis
Lappen, Vic Haen Jr., Lee Wittman, Mark Bachhuber, David Bachhuber, Tom
Cleveland, Jared De Bruin, Lyle Guertz, Mike Hunter, Lyle Hansen and Glenn
Hansen. Other Eagles Scouts are: Pat Hopfensperger, Roger Metz, Tom Jansen, Bob
Jansen, Kenneth Jaeger, William Niesen, Dennis Plzak, Stanley Plzak, Allen
Plzak, Dennis Schaefer and David Schwalenberg. Dale Seibers, Howard Veldman
Jr., Dennis Veldman, Les Schultz, Jerome Schaefer, Jon Austin, Dick Lemke, Jim
Reichel, Jack Grissman, Robert Greenwood, David Vanevenhoven and Carl
Vanevenhoven.
