Drag
racing will begin this Sunday at the KK sports arena. Clarence De Leeuw,
manager of the arena, expects a good turnout of cars, adding that there should
be some “rails” entered in the races. A “rail” is a vehicle specially designed
for the quick acceleration involved in drag racing. The drag strip is 3000 feet
long and 50 feet wide. KK is the largest sports center of this type in the
Midwest, De Leeuw says. It covers 120 acres and stretches nearly a mile across.
At present there is a 12,000 seating capacity.

Day for the United States of America”, he said. “We have troops on alert in Germany,

Funeral
services were held in Appleton Saturday for Miss Florence E. Bounds, Latin and
history teacher at Kaukauna high school for nearly 40 years until her
retirement in 1949. After her graduation from Lawrence college in 1905, she
entered a career of teaching coming to Kaukauna at the old high school in the
Park school building in 1910. One of her former associates recalls said she
came here when boys and girls attended high school for the purpose of
self-improvement, often denying themselves the attraction of a job in the mill
or railroad yards which were open to a lad of 14. There were no buses to ride
and tuition for those outside the city was paid by the parents.

Cross Catholic Church here for the last 19 years. The Rev. Stanislaus V. Bona,

Fr. Quella’s first assignment as a young priest in 1917.
