The Kaukauna high school cross country team
will be seeking their third win of the season when they travel to New London
high for a dual meet. Head coach Don Jensen will probably start Terry Van
Wychen, Karl Kilgas, Mike McPhail, Carl Haack, Tom Jakl, Kevin Coleman and
Steve Therriault on the varsity at New London.
Kaukauna High School came back from last week's
loss to Neenah and put together the best game of the season as they beat New
London Saturday at Bayorgeon field 32-0. The Ghost offensive front wall opened
up holes at will allowing Kaukauna backs to gain 320 yards on the ground. The
defense was no less spectacular as they intercepted five passes, four by Scott
Bay.
October 7, 1966
Development started this week on a new real
estate subdivision in Kaukauna by the Van Daalwyk land company on the southwest
edge of the city. To be known as Thelen Estates” it will occupy 74 acres on the
former Thelen farm on County Hy. K. Earthmovers were on the job grading the
land for the layout of 250 lots.
The Kaukauna Times, following custom of many
years standing in its observance of National Newspaper Week, is “augmenting its
staff” with the addition of the journalism students at Kaukauna high school,
who have written all the stories in today's issue.
Raymond E. Breitbach, Kaukauna, was recently
named president of the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association at the fifty-fifth
annual Association convention in Appleton.
Willie Davis, all-pro defensive end of the
Green Bay Packers team, will be the speaker at the Knights of Columbus meeting
Monday evening at the Highland avenue clubhouse.
October 22, 1966
Carl Mueller and Tom Giordana teamed up for a
64-yard pass and run with fourteen seconds to go in the game Sunday, as the
Hollandtown Raiders won their homecoming game over St. Boniface of DePere 7-0.
The Kaukauna high school football team defeated
an unbeaten opponent to take over undisputed second-place in the conference
standings. The Ghosts downed Shawano Friday night 26-7 at Shawano.
Funeral services were
held today and Thursday for two Kaukauna youths who were killed in a car accident
while returning to college Sunday. Leo Verhagen 19, and Allen Gloudeman, 18,
died almost instantly in a head-on crash on US 10 four miles east of Stevens
Point. The two boys were returning to Wisconsin state University Stevens Point
where they were sophomores after a weekend visit in their Kaukauna homes.
Assemblyman William Rogers of Kaukauna, was
elected as officer of the legislator council committee to study mental health
laws in Madison Friday.
Ralph Vanevenhoven rolled a 237 single and a
651 series lead the bowlers at the Business men's league at the Bowling
Bar.
Lorenz “Corn Mayer,” a machinist at
Thilmany, captured the senior golf trophy at the Fox Valley links Saturday,
firing a net 71 on the par 73 tour of the new 18-hole layout.
October 14, 1966
Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kaukauna
will commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the dedication of their present
house of worship this coming Wednesday and Sunday. On January 3, 1915, the
congregation at Trinity resolved “to build a new church in the name of God and
to begin work early in the Spring.” On June 27, 1915, Pastor William Hinnenthal
conducted the services at the laying of the cornerstone, and on February 13,
1916, services at the solemn dedication of the completed church took place.
Lynn Leddy was chosen
to reign as queen over the 1966 Homecoming festivities on October 15. Her royal
court consists of Natalie Brenzel and Melonie Rose.
The Green Bay Packers (4-1-0) head to Wrigley
Field Sunday to face the Chicago Bears (2-2-0) in a renewal of the NFL's
longest rivalry dating back to 1921. Coach Vince Lombardi's seven years at the
helm held a 9-5-0 edge over of the Bears. Carroll Dale continues to catch the
big pass play on the scoring from Starr aerial after five games. He now has 15
catches for 296 yards. Paul Horning leads the team in touchdown pass receptions
with 3 after catching 43 yard Starr pass in the third quarter of Sunday's game
at San Francisco.
October 19, 1966
Airman William A. Verboomen, Kaukauna, has been
selected for technical training at Keesler AFB, Miss., as a U.S. Air Force
radar operator.
A delegation from Kaukauna high school led by
Guy Krumm, athletic director, and Harry Wilson, football coach, attended the
funeral of John Perrault Tuesday morning in Shawano. Other members of the party
included Ken Roloff, assistance football coach; Lee Nimmer and John Van De Hey,
Kaukauna high school co-captains; and Dave Krings, representing the high school
student council. Perrault died from injuries
from the Kaukauna–Shawano game.
Mrs. Art Kromer, Jr. was elected president and
Mrs. Jerry Huss was named secretary at the Monday evening meeting of the
American Legion auxiliary.
October 21, 1966
James Verhasselt,
Kaukauna, was named Outstanding Young Farmer of the year for Kaukauna area at a
dinner meeting Wednesday at Oakwood Hills club. The fourth annual contest was
sponsored jointly by the Kaukauna Jaycees and Badger Northland, Inc. Shown

Mech, Jaycees Chairman; Verhasselt and his wife Marilyn.
October 26, 1966
Kaukauna overcame a strong wind and some sloppy
play at times to defeat the Menasha high school 31-0 Saturday in a game played at
Bayorgeon field. The Ghosts are now 6-1 on the season and 5-1 in the
conference.
October 28, 1966
Giddings & Lewis Machine Tool Company
posted record sales ending September 30, 1966, chairman of the board Ralph J.
Kraut, announced today. Net sales for the nine months increased 35.9%.
