The Kaukauna Common Council voted 9-1 Thursday night to establish a full-time mayor post for the 1968 election. The action concurs with an advisory referendum earlier this year in which, the majority of, the voters indicated they wanted this change. Alderman Rogers pointed out that the complexities of today's city government required the services of a full-time mayor, and that the lack of time of a part-time mayor was a big point. Many projects would be completed or more action taken on them if the chief executive could devote more time on them. This would also provide better management for the city.

The Green Bay Packers have one more opportunity to sharpen their skills in an exhibition game before getting down to the serious business of beginning their drive for an unprecedented third straight World Championship.  The Packers will meet the New York Giants tonight at Lambeau Field. The Packers will get their first look at an old nemesis in a new uniform as they try to stop the passing and running game of Fran Tarkenton.

The KHS Ghosts have been busy this week preparing for their season opener against Abbot Pennings of DePere Saturday. There are several gaps by injuries to key personnel according to head coach Harry Wilson. Bill Verhagen, an All-Conference linebacker last season will miss the first two games due to a knee injury. Allgeyer will be out for 15 days with a jammed wrist, Marty Van Zeeland is out with a shoulder separation and Tom Seggelink is doubtful.

Lyle Fink, this year’s Schut King, is pictured wearing the traditional cape. The bird was downed on the 616th shot fired in the Schut.

The Hollandtown Golden Raiders ran up against a much larger team, St. Mary’s of Milwaukee, and were defeated 24-0. This is the first loss for the Raiders. Coach Bob Wurdinger was proud of his team. “The kids never fell apart out there and gained a lot of valuable experience”.

Yeoman Third Class Robert Kreikamp, Kimberly, has returned to San Diego, Cal. After participation in the joint Army-Navy operation “Coral Sands Two”.

Kaukauna has a new water wheel and stone mill, it being a replica of an earlier one former mayor Lewis F. Nelson had built many years ago on the grounds of the old Badger Tissue Mills. Ceremonies Saturday afternoon dedicated the replica of an old-fashioned water wheel to the memory of the late Lewis F. Nelson, twice mayor of Kaukauna, 1937-40 and 1942-46, "for his untiring efforts in the preservation of the Grignon Home and his efforts in preserving the historic and natural beauties of Kaukauna," as a plaque, soon to be placed near the mill, will read. The water wheel and mill are located near the fourth lock of the government canal, and the famed Grignon Home.

Airman Second Class Kevin Foster, Kimberly, is on duty at Phu Cat AB, Vietnam. Airman Foster is a security policeman.

Richard Berkers, Kaukauna Jaycee President, is shown presenting young Michael Alger with a plaque and savings bond for his heroic act of saving his mother’s life after her clothing caught afire by pulling the burning clothing from her.
