Superintendent of Kaukauna schools T. H. Boebel
stated a serious problem confronting our schools today is the shortage of
qualified teachers. Because of no teachers in some places more than a million
children are not attending school this year. It has been necessary to employ
retired teachers that schools can be kept open. One of the main causes of the
problem is the pitiful salaries many teachers have left to secure jobs that pay
better. There are very few teaches entering the profession.
