Time Machine Trip to May 1969


May 2, 1969

King Gary Effa and Queen Karen Van Vreede, will reign at the 1969 Junior Prom.  “Land of the Rising Sun,” the prom theme, will be held in the old gymnasium tonight.


Michael Hooyman, Kaukauna, has been promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal while serving with the Marines in Vietnam.


May 9, 1969
Six new members will be inducted in Kaukauna High’s Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday evening. The six all of whom made sparkling contributions in the field of athletics, include Dr. George Boyd, Emmett Rohan, Marvin Miller, H. F. McAndrews, Floyd Schroeder and Foster Miller. 


R. D. Seaman Thomas W. Berg, Kaukauna, recently finished two weeks of special training in Radar school at San Diego, California and has been assigned to the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Constellation as a Radar man. 
 
May 16, 1969
Mayor Gilbert Anderson has designated May 17 through May 31 as “Clean-up, Fix-up Week” in Kaukauna. Several businessmen have already starting on the exterior of their buildings. Any items residents wish to dispose of that may be of further use may be donated to the Kaukauna Jaycees for their upcoming auction. 




Kaukauna’s Al Borchardt hurled a four-hitter Tuesday as the Ghosts finally got their first conference win of the season defeating Kimberly by a 2-1 margin.












May 27, 1969


Army Private Gary J. Bergeron, Kaukauna, completed eight weeks of Military police training at the Army Training Center, Ft. Gordon, Ga. During the graduation ceremony he was awarded a trophy in recognition of his achievement as high scorer with the 45-caliber pistol. He is currently stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. 





Spec. 5 Robert J. Klister, Kaukauna, was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his outstanding meritorious service while serving as a member of the 4th Medical Detachment, Vietnam.

New Officers of the Kaukauna Jaycees were installed Tuesday at Oakwood Hills. Glenn Hansen was installed as the new Jaycee president for 1969-1970. Pictured left to right Joseph Treml, State vice-president, Hansen and Past President Richard Mech.


Mrs. Neil (Lois) Faust was installed as the 1969-1970 President of the Kaukauna Jaycettes at an installation banquet. Pictured left to right, Mrs. Faust; Mrs. Jerry (Arlene) Haunschild installing officer; and Mrs. Richard (Betsy) Mech, past Jaycette president.  


Mark McAndrews, center and James Rademaker right recently received their certificated of completion from the police training course. Both are now members of the Kaukauna Police Department. On the left is Lieutenant William Nagel.




Jon Pendleton strains to beat the throw to first in Kaukauna’s game at Clintonville last week. The Ghost second baseman won the race but Kaukauna lost the game be a 5-3.
