Longtime Kaukauna resident John Merbach, age 91, has passed away. He had been a member of Company F, 6th Wisconsin infantry during the Civil War, enlisting in 1864, well past the age of most of his confreres.  At his funeral only three of his comrades were well enough to attend. We have not many more G.A.R. funerals to attend.

Farmers have been notified within a radius of 10 miles from this city inviting them to bring their families to Kaukauna to witness the exhibition and hear expert talks and lectures. He has secured 75 good prizes which will be awarded to the holder of lucky numbers. Virtually every business house in the city has given him a prize to award.

Rome, January 21 – Benedict XV, the 259th sovereign pontiff of the Church of Rome, died late today at the Vatican. he had lapsed into delirium earlier in the day and failed to recognize anyone at his bedside.

John Schmidt, president of the Farmers and Merchants bank, was routed from his bed last Thursday morning by a telephone call and to his surprise found that the call came from Little Rock, AR, from a friend. In spite of the long distance between this city had Little Rock, he was able to hear as distinctly as though they were in the next house.
