February 4, 1953

Getting ready for the second pier as work is continuing on the Little Chute - Kimberly Bridge. Dredging crews are working around the clock in the attempt to get the excavation through solid rock dug for piers.

 

Elizabeth “Betsy” Brenzel is the high school’s choice for the DAR award for 1953. Joan Van Zeeland and Muriel Feldcamp were tied for runner-up in the final ballot by the faculty.


Sixteen men who operate the Thilmany Pulp and Paper company fleet won awards for their no-accident records at a driver safety award dinner Saturday night. Top honors went to Marvin Busse and Gerald Smits, who have a record of 15 years without a changeable accident.

Arthur H. Mongin, Jr., was elected to a three-year term on the 36-man board of directors of the Green Bay Packers at the annual stock holders meeting Monday in Green Bay.

February 11, 1953

Members of the past basketball teams from 1934 to 1941 got together to take on Kimberly alumni members of the same years between halves of the Kaukauna-Kimberly varsity game. Ves Hanby, ‘37; Bill Knapp, ‘41; Don Biselx, ‘40; Roman Berg, ‘36; Jerome Parman, ‘37; Gerald Vils, ‘34; and Carl Giordana, ‘41.

 

February 20, 1953

Firemen and onlookers were viewing the smoldering remains of the Gamble's Store Tuesday morning. The fire was discovered at 1 o'clock after a two-hour start. The $40,000 blaze totally destroyed the one-story building on Wisconsin Avenue.

 

February 25, 1953

Six months old and she can stand alone. This young lady, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rosin Lawe Street showed this unusual progress.

Harvey Doering, Second Street grocer, was named president of the Kaukauna Food Dealer's Association at their annual election at the Elks Club.

Abe Golden, Kaukauna, rolled his highest score ever in the American Bowling Congress tournament in Chicago Wednesday when he pinned a 643 series. 


Winners of the Catholic Press Month poster contest promoting good home reading have been announced. Beth Bloch and Kathy Eslien won the primary group. Susan Appleton, grade 4; Thomas Verhagen and Julie Vanevenhoven, Grade 5; Bridget Brenzel, Grade 6; Patricia Verhagen, Grade 7; and Joann Faust, Grade 8.
