Time Machine Trip to July 1933

July 5, 1933

Nearly $30 was taken from the John Cleland filling station at the corner of Taylor and Lawe streets Tuesday morning at 8:45 by two daylight bandits. According to Mr. Cleland, who was alone at the station at the time, one of the vandals entered the station and ordered Mr. Cleland to put up his hands. Mr. Cleland lost no time cooperating with the bandit and proceeded to the till and handed him over all dollar bills and 50 cent pieces therein.

Antonio Jansen, president of the village of Little Chute and vice chairman of Outagamie County Board, was reelected president of the Wisconsin league of municipalities at the closing session of the annual meeting at Rice Lake.


July 7, 1933

Theodore Zwick, 33, Maria St. was electrocuted at 10:15 a.m. today while painting conduit on the north side of the Chicago and northwestern railroad shops.


July 11, 1933

An explosion of an oil stove at the residence of Mrs. Anna Jensen, Wisconsin Ave., called out the city fire department Monday afternoon. All furniture in the kitchen of the residence was destroyed by fire. Mrs. Jansen severely burned her hands.

The grounds, about the south side of the Badger Tissue Mills of this city have been beautified this year with the construction of a rock garden, planting of several varieties of flowers, the erection of an old mill, bird bath and stone bench. The old mill with water well on one side adds to the beauty of the place. The mill managers Mayor L. F. Nelson and Harry D. Conkey are very proud of this latest improvement.


Marvin Baumgarten, three and half year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Baumgarten route 5 Kaukauna, died about 3:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon as a result of a broken leg sustained when he was playing near his home last week. The youth died at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton where he was taken after the accident.


July 21, 1933

Complaints have been received by the police department that outboard motorboats on the Fox River between Combined Locks and the Lawe Street Bridge are too noisy. Police have taken action and warned operators to muffle their motors or arrests will follow.


Kaukauna young men who are to attend the military maneuvers at Ft. Snelling, Minnesota this week for the month of August. Stanley Kauth, Donald McCormick, Kenneth Heindel, Wilbert Jansen, Wesley Kemp and Dilman Rodel.


July 28, 1933

A new Second Street store will open on Saturday. The firm will be known as the E. F. Wieckert Grocery Company and will be located in the Balgie Building.
