Graduation of 34 grade school students from St.
Aloysius school took place on Sunday June 2.
Upgrading the looks of the city’s downtown
shopping area is the key to getting more people into Kaukauna’s business
district and, is the key to getting people out of their cars and into the
stores, Del Weaver told the Kaukauna Business Association.
Thilmany Pulp & Paper Company today
announced plans to build a new paper machine designed to produce 24,000 tons
per year of one-time carbonless paper. The expansion is expected to cost 25
million dollars.
June 12, 1974
St. Mary’s grade school will graduate 42 grade
school students on Friday evening.
June 14, 1974
Major Thomas A. McAndrews formerly of Kaukauna
has been selected to attend graduate school at the University of Missouri,
Kansas City, following graduation from the United States Army Command college,
Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He will be working toward his master’s degree in history.
He is a 1958 Graduate of Kaukauna High School.
June 19, 1974
Auction at Holy Cross drew a big crowd and
disposed of a mountain of household items that were contributed for the two-day
event. Auctioneer Leon Vanderloop calls for the bids on a chair being held up
by Ernest VanDeHey.
Lt. Col. Gene F. Schiedermayer was chosen as
Rallymaster this year. He is a member of the silver
anniversary class of 1949. A record crowd of 450 people attended the 38th
annual gathering of the Kaukauna High School Alumni at Van Abels, Hollandtown
last weekend.
Mrs. Gilbert (Marion) Knorr, center, editor in
chief on the Alumni News was presented with a plaque to the person who has
performed outstanding service to the Kaukauna High School Alumni Association.
To the left of Marion is Mrs. Donald (Peggy) Mangold and to the right is Mrs.
Lyle (Kay) Vandenberg, both co-editors with Marion on the news.

The 1961 Chevys don’t have wings and not made
to fly unless of course Ken Carter – the “Mad Canadian” is behind the wheel.
Carter claims to have set the world’s record of leaping over 13 trucks at
Wisconsin International Raceway Sunday afternoon. He wasn’t so fortunate
Saturday night when he negotiated the 13 trucks all right but, on his re-entry,
only managed to get two wheels on the ramp. He made a trip to St. Elizabeth
hospital where he was treated for a contusion to the chest.
Bill Newhouse recently announced his
retirement at the age of 18. No, he didn’t win the lottery, he is just retiring
after six years as a newspaper carrier for the Kaukauna Times.
June 28, 1974
Low bids totaling $690,114 have been received
for the remodeling of the downtown Badger Northland building for the city of
Kaukauna.
