June 3, 1964
One of the most spactular vehicle fires in
recent history occurred Tuesday when a semi-trailer truck collided with a gas
company zone regulator at the intersection of Quinney Avenue and Dixon St. The
gas ignited the cab and front portions of the trailer. The truck was parked on Quinney, when the
brakes failed, and it rolled downhill hitting the gas regulator used by the
Kaukauna Dairy Company. The driver was taken to the Kaukauna community hospital
for observation.
Nine young women were selected to serve as guides for the historic
Grignon home in Kaukauna this summer.
June 5, 1964
Bethany Lutheran Church, Tenth Street and
Hendricks Avenue will observe a mortgage burning ceremony at worship services
on Sunday morning. The church was founded in Kaukauna in 1946 and the building
was dedicated on March 11, 1951.
Miss Sharon Chamness was named the 1964
winner of the Lang Trophy at the annual Class Night. The four-year Thilmany
scholarship award was presented to Thomas Borree, the Badger Northland
scholarship presented to Thomas Kiffe and the newly created Giddings and Lewis
scholarship awarded was presented to James Kahler.
June 10, 1964
Stanley Beguhn was honored at the
annual Kaukauna Education Association breakfast Friday morning. Mr. Beguhn is
retiring after 43 years of serving on the KHS faculty.
John P. Duffy, a Green
Bay attorney and graduate of the Class of 1938, has been named Rallymaster for
the 28th annual Rally of the Kaukauna High School Alumni Association
to be held Saturday, June 20.
This year two sophomore
members of the Kaukauna High School tennis team, Tom Collins and Donald Priebe
were elected co-captains of the 1965 team.
Leading the women’s
golf organization at Fox Valley club this season are left to right LaVern
Goetzman, Marion Stegeman, Joan Nagan, Evelyn Heindel, Marjorie Koglin, and
Mildred Maley.
June 12, 1964
William Rogers,
Democratic assemblyman from Kaukauna, announced today that he will be a
candidate for re-election to the assembly in the fall election. Rogers was
first elected in 1962.
June 17, 1964
Wayne Steinbach was
recently elected president of the high school student council and Nancy Tatro
was elected vice-president of the organization for the 1964-65 school year.
June 19,
1964
Thomas Kersten, age 24, died Thursday
morning following a early morning car accident.
June 24, 1964
The 28th

A capacity crowd was on
hand for the 18th Annual Alumni Rally last Saturday evening at Van Abel’s,
Hollandtown. At the opening ceremony, Mayor Joseph Bayorgeon welcomed all in
attendance and tribute was extended to Joseph McCarty, "Father of the Kaukauna
High School Alumni Association."
Near capacity crowds, estimated at 1000 per
night, were on hand this past weekend at the Kaukauna Athletic Club’s seventh
annual open softball tournament. The tournament will last this weekend through
next weekend.
Pete Strick, Combined Locks, fired this first
hole-in-one at the Fox Valley Golf links Wednesday morning. Golfing in a
threesome and using a 2-iron on the 175-yard sixth hole.
