Mongin said of Lambeau that he was always agreeable and easy to deal with when he lined up speakers. For the first Lions Club football dinner in 1936 Lambeau and Richard “Red” Smith were the speakers. Green Bay had lost to the Bears 33 to 3 two days before, Mongin recalls But Curly pronounced at the dinner. “We will win the championship, and if we don’t it will be the coaches’ fault.” The Packers went on to win the title that year.

Graduates of 1965 will be stepping out into the most revolutionary age that man has known, and they must be prepared to respond to a challenging world. Kaukauna High School seniors were told at commencement exercises Thursday by Charles H. Percy president of Bell and Howell and candidate for governor of Illinois. A crowd of 1300 graduates relatives and friends gathered in the high school gym for the ceremonies. Dr. George Behnke, vice president of the school board presented diplomas to 285 seniors. Percy stated that scientific advancements are moving too swiftly to keep pace with all the innovations in any field. It took 5000 years to reach the steam age, another 100 to the age of air travel. A third age, that of the atom, arrived only 40 years later. In a relatively short time -- 12 years the world has reached the age of space.

Quick action by Dan Romenesko, 13, helped avert a tragedy last Wednesday near his home in Washington Street. Wisconsin Sen. Gaylord Nelson has summarized his views on the Vietnam situation. He says American troops must not become involved in a major land war in Asia. He stated ultimately the Vietnam conflict can be settled permanently only through political negotiations, with the settlement enforced by the great powers. Peace and stability will return to South Vietnam only when a strong native government is established with the popular support. Nelson says he believes these principles are also accepted by President Johnson and our government policy has not changed from what was under Eisenhower and Kennedy.
