Green Bay meets Detroit for the 52nd time next
Sunday afternoon. The game will be played at Green Bay's new city Stadium
before the second sellout crowd of the season for the Packers. Last Sunday the
Green Bay Packers held the high geared Chicago Bears offense without a
touchdown and with only two first downs rushing. They defeated the Bears 9-6. The
Bears were limited to only 75 yards rushing a great tribute to the Packers
defense which was considered the weakest in the league last season. The Packers
rushing game came up with 176 yards with Jim Taylor getting 98 on 22 attempts
and Paul Hornung picking up 61 and 19 tries. Lombardi felt that his quarterback
Lamar McHan, who went all the way despite an injury, was tremendous. “He was
playing with a bad leg and a really bad muscle pull. From the middle of the
second quarter on he couldn't pivot on the leg. I second-guessed myself about
20 times whether I should take him out.” “He called a fine game just the way it
was drawn up.”
Andy Whittaker, a sophomore at Oshkosh
College, is listed on the official roster of the 1959 grid Titans among the
halfbacks. A 1957 graduate of Kaukauna High School Whittaker played all four
years for the Galloping Ghosts.

Verkuilen, Tom Verhagen and Jim West. Players listed as ends are Clyde
Baumgart, Dan Hurst, Tom Hietpas, Jim Van Asten, Harley Hietpas, Dan Hietpas

DeWitt and Hugo Whitman. Tackles are Alan Ebben, Ron Kons, Chuck Fritch, Tom

The Kaukauna Galloping Ghost Friday evening had
no trouble as they stormed to a 27-0 win over the Purple Raiders of Two Rivers.
Bob Wurdinger was the top scorer for the Ghosts, chalking up three touchdowns,
all on short lunges, while Jim Steger accounted for the first score on a 47-yard
rumble. On the conversions Pete Bachhuber booted a perfect three for three
mark.
When the Kaukauna freshman smashed the Little
Papermakers of Kimberly by a 55-6 margin on Thursday, they established a couple
of records. For the first record, the match was the highest scoring affair in
history of any of Kaukauna High. The second record was the Kaukauna-Kimberly
game is the widest margin in history of play in the Fox Valley league.

Kaukauna seems to have little effort controlling
the ball most of the game except for the final quarter when Coach Fred Barribeau
began to substitute freely. Kaukauna won their Homecoming game Friday evening
by defeating New London 28-6.

“Vince Lombardi, head coach and general manager
of the Green Bay Packers, is a strict disciplinarian whom the players respect
and like.” That was the impression left here by Steve Meilinger, veteran end of
the Green Bay Packers in his remarks at the Lions Club dinner Tuesday at the
Elks. “One of the first-string boys came late to a practice this week and was
fined $50” Meilinger said. “Why are the Packers winning this year when they
have so many the same players as last year? It's all in the coaching, Coach
Lombardi has instilled a winning attitude in the players, and he's given them
good instruction. I talked with one league player who worked under him in the
pro-bowl game. He said Lombardi is the best coach he's ever saw.”
The Kaukauna Freshman Ghost strengthened their
hold on the top spot in the league by defeating the Little Blue Jays of Menasha
20-0 last Thursday afternoon. The Ghosts were hampered by the fact that
halfback Ron Straus, one of the leading ground gainers of the team, did not see
much action due to an injured ankle. However, the Little Ghosts romped to
victory with Dick Promer and Harry Wheelock sparking the action. A fumble
recovery in the first quarter by Art Dorn on the 40-yard line and successive
runs by Harry Wheelock and Mike Kobussen brought the Ghosts to the 5-yard line
where Dick Promer bulled his way into the end zone.

- Every Wednesday and Friday morning we step out on our porch and pick up our
copy of the Kaukauna Times. It was delivered to our door sometime early morning
by the paperboy. But how many of us stop to think about the task of the carrier
boy. As a former carrier of the TIMES I would try to give a description of the
job of the paperboy. Your carrier boy probably gets up about 5 o'clock in the
morning. Then he will go down to the office of the TIMES to pick up his papers.
After checking to see if he has any new customers on his route or if he has a
complaint from one of his customers, he will start his journey around his
route. One might be inclined to say that this is seen as not too hard at all.
But if you stop and think about the weather you might change your mind on the
matter. Many times, the temperature has dropped below the zero mark and the
thought of walking several blocks delivering papers is not a very pleasant
experience. He has a twofold problem of
keeping himself and his papers dry. He also has to see that he puts the paper in
a sheltered spot on your porch.
Funeral services for Carl W. Engerson, 58, former Kaukauna Fire Chief and brother of Harold Engerson, Kaukauna Police Chief, were held Monday. Engerson had been with the Kaukauna Fire Department 29 years and was chief for three years.

A 40-year history of transporting coal and
other items on the Fox River will come to a close within a few days as the Fox

according to James Bambery manager of the concern. The drop in tonnage was given as the reason
for closing down the operation.
