The Dodge street horse trough is causing
comment, not only here but in newspapers through the country. An article in a
front-page story in the Morning News of Dallas, Texas on May 7. “Citizens of
Kaukauna, Wis., evidently retain something of their former love for old Dobbin.
The recent removal of the last watering trough for horses was followed by a
vigorous protest of the town’s inhabitants. The trough, to add insult to
injury, was removed to make way for a filling station.”

Four coupons from bonds stolen in the hold-up
of the Bank of Kaukauna here in September of 1930 were discovered in the vault
of the Hibernia Bank and Trust company at New Orleans. A New Orleans woman, a
widow of an alleged bootlegger who had recently died, had cashed the notes and
the payment had been reported as stopped. She said she was not aware they were
from a bank robbery. A search warrant for her home showed up no additional
notes. A check of other banks in the area turned up no addition notes.

Since use of prison labor in clearing fire
lanes on forest land has been advocated by Governor La Follette, the state has
been receiving letters from residents of northern Wisconsin against the support
of this program. Claims that the site of prisoners working along the road would
make a bad impression on tourist making them fearful of their safety.
