August 6, 1952
City crews are completing the grading of
Washington Street, a new street connecting Plank Road and North Lawe Street. The 850-foot road will not be curbed but may
be given a hard surface after the road settles in a year or so.
The purchase of the Star Appliance company on
west Wisconsin Avenue was made last week by Gordan Jacobson. The firm will
continue the sales of the General Electric line of household appliances.
August 8, 1952
Famous quarterbacks are
to face each other in Green Bay Saturday.
These two All-American rookies are Babe Parilli, of the Green Bay
Packers and veteran Otto Graham of the Cleveland Browns.
The 1952 assessed valuation of Kaukauna is one
and a half million more than last year. The recently completed valuation places
the city for 1952 at $16,490,850 according to City Assessor Lothar Kemp.
August 13, 1952
Word had been received that the skating troupe
of Marge Stokes and Elaine Look have finally received their trunks which were
confiscated by the Red in Germany recently. Nothing was reported missing from
the luggage.
August 15, 1952
The Children’s Circus
put on by the children of White City Park took place Saturday. The King and Queen were Neil Faust and
Caroline Brenzel. The attendants were
Susan Appleton and Mary Haen.
Pitcher Joe Van Linn fanned 21 batters as the
Legion trounced Neenah 7-5 at Menasha Tuesday evening. Van Linn allowed only
one base, on balls, while Kaukauna batters took six hits and eight walks off
Neenah.
August 20, 1952
Harry Vogts of Madison captured
honors by winning three out of four heats for the $2,000 prize trophy. Close to
8000 spectators on both sides of the Fox River watched some of the Midwest’s
crack boat drivers competing Saturday and Sunday afternoon in Kaukauna’s Tenth
Annual Regatta, sponsored by the VFW Post 3319.
August 29, 1952
Reading champions in
the Kaukauna Public Library reading program this summer are five girls who read
nearly 300 books. They are Marlene Van
Drasek, 53 books; Jeanne Onkels, 60 books; Susan Mongin 60 books; Muriel Mongin
46 books.
Sam Dubow, the new Kaukauna High school’s
football coach, took the practice field with the team this week. Dubow comes
here from six years of college coaching at Gogebic Junior college at Ironwood.
Kate Hanson took the state Elks title
championship Friday at De Pere Town and Country golf club. Mrs. Hanson carded a
score of 42 for the nine holes.
