Miss Lindy Kemp was
announced as KHS Lang Trophy winner to climax 1963 Class Night exercises with
221 seniors graduating Monday evening.
June 7, 1963
Ken Vander Velden has been named head basketball coach at Kaukauna High School. Vander Velden replaces Jerry Hopfensperger, who resigned to take a similar position at Preble High.
Two Kaukauna youths Paul
Esler 15 and Robert Robach 16 died as a result of injuries sustained
in a car crash Wednesday evening on County Trunk Q.
Lightning bolts in a severe electrical storm
and a car crash which claimed the lives of two Kaukauna youths got almost every
type of emergency vehicle in and around the city of Kaukauna on Wednesday
night. Lightning which struck the island St. bridge approached to the Wisconsin
Ave. span required equipment and personnel of the Kaukauna Electric and Water
departments the city fire department and gas company and the telephone company
to repair the damage.
June 12, 1963
A yearling buck
wandered into Kaukauna Saturday morning and got tied up in city traffic on the
Southside of town. Taking a wrong turn on Third Street, the deer leaped through
a plate glass window at Coffey Motors, 103 E. Third Street. The animal was finally
subdued with ropes and a tranquilizing drug. The deer was released in the wild
outside of town.
June 14, 1963
The 1963 “Papyrus” yearbook for the Kaukauna High School was dedicated to the late Adrian McGrath, who served as vocal music director at KHS until his death in April of last year.
Ray Morgan aced a hole in one on the 225-yard No.
hole at Fox Valley Golf Club Sunday.
Kay Zummeren, 13, made a hole in one
on the 125-yard No. 3 hole at Fox Valley Golf course Friday.
Paul Hietpas was named president of the Kaukauna
Chamber of Commerce for 1963-64 at the June meeting held Tuesday according to Miss
Mary Margaret DeClercq chamber secretary.
June 19, 1963
Members of the Silver
Anniversary class of 1938, Kaukauna High School, gathered at Van Abel's
Saturday evening. Forty-one of the original one hundred and seven were in
attendance. Many awards were presented to the members and a good time was had
by all.
Rev. Percy Gibson from
the class of 1893, the first class to graduate from Kaukauna High School,
attended the annual Alumni rally. Rally Master Robert Knox, Norbert Noie, Alumni
president, and Joseph C. McCarty chairman of the board.

The 1963 American
Legion picnic will be held for the first time on the outskirts of the City
beyond highway “OO” adjacent to the new Legion club. In addition to the eight
carnival rides there will be many stands on the midway.
