The House of David
defeated the Kaukauna State league baseball team here Tuesday night in a 10-inning
thriller 12 to 11. Jackie Mitchell, the much talked about girl pitcher, pitched
the first inning but with two outs, Marty Lamers put one over the left field
fence. Al Bauer worked the mound for the Kaws and pitched a very good game
despite the score.
85% of Americans are inadequately housed. 75%
live in hand me down quarters bare of modern comforts and conveniences. There
are sound indications that a major building revival is on its way every
American deserves better living conditions.
September 6, 1933
Donald McCormick, who returned from Camp Snelling, Minnesota, is in possession of a gold baseball, which he received for pitching the game which won the championship for Company C. He also received a fine ball and bat autographed by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in recognition of being the best all-around baseball player at camp.
L. F. Nelson, general chairman of the NRA work
received 1500 consumer cards last week in Kaukauna. There are 114 Kaukauna merchants and businesses
displaying the Blue Eagle Pendant. The number of people added to payrolls in Kaukauna
is 186. This is a yearly increase in payrolls of $222,494.
The Thilmany Pulp & Paper Company, largest
employer of labor of the city, unfurled a large blue eagle pennant on the
flagpole over the main entrance of the building Thursday morning.
September 12, 1933
All parents are warned
their children must attend full-time school up to 16 years of age according to
NRA requirements. Children 16 to 18 must attend school at least one day per
week and no work permits will be issued to children under 16 years of age.
The Green Bay Packers will begin the quest for
their 4th national professional Football League Pennant in five years at City
Stadium here Sunday, they will be meeting the Boston Redskins in the first
league game of the season for both teams.
Peter Metz was elected president of the senior
class of Kaukauna High School at a meeting held last week. George Grogan was
elected vice president, Alice Esler secretary and treasurer.
September 19, 1933
Wisconsin Governor
Schmederman issued a proclamation Monday designating the week of September
25th as "NRA buying for Re-Employment Week." All NRA stores are urged
to offer goods during that period at prices that will attract purchases and,
calls upon consumers to be generous in their patronage of the Blue Eagle
business houses.
More than sixty members of the Brokaw Memorial
Methodist Episcopal Church attended a farewell party for Rev. and Mrs. H. J.
Lane held at the Ellsworth home Friday evening.
Work was started in the latter part of this
week on the construction of a bridge over the power canal on Main Ave. The work
is being done under the direction of the board of public works. Construction of
the bridge will be a great aid for the unemployed situation in Kaukauna, all
local labor will be used. The Green Bay Mississippi Canal Company will pay for
the construction of the new bridge.
September 22, 1933
It is believed that this depression we are
going through is having a good effect on the race. People are becoming more
sympathetic toward other’s problems. Depression brings so much hardship is also
bringing character as adversity always does.
Music until 1 a.m. is the name of the new song
being sung by Kaukauna tavern keepers this week as a result of action taken by
the common council Tuesday evening when the first amendment to an ordinance
regulating the sale of 3.2 beer was voted. Under the ordinance the taverns will
now be able to have music up to closing time, which is 1:00 a.m. Police will
decide whether or not the music is disturbing the peace.
September 25, 1933
Kaukauna High School football
team won the opening game on their schedule when they easily defeated St.
Norbert High of De Pere, Saturday, 25 to 7. Coach Little rushed in the reserves
early in the game, using every number on the squad. Grogan, a halfback, scored
the first touchdown, with Vils and Kuchelmeister each scoring later in the
game.
High Cliff - The town board has a large number of
unemployed to work widening the high Cliff road running down the incline West
of the park this road was too narrow for all traffic it had carried during the
summer.
Little Chute - St. John's football squad was
defeated at Neenah Saturday by a score of 29 to 0. Ambrose Hammen stood out for
the Chuters doing most of the ball carrying, passing, and punting.
