September 5, 1973

Bonny Kempen, Kaukauna, aces the No. 7, 190-yard par 3 hole at Brown County golf course over the weekend for his first hole in one ever.


Some people naturally have the gift of E.S.P. and an unidentified fan on the sidelines was heard to have said shortly before the game began, I'd like to see the boys (Holland town) get an early score, it would really give them the momentum. No sooner than these words were spoken than the Raider’s Chuck McDaniels picked up the opening kickoff and rambled 90 yards for a touchdown. The Raider’s when on to defeat the Downers Grove Blue Devils 31–0.

LeRoy Fieck, owner of Lee and Sandy’s Dugout, plans to walk 88.6 miles just for the personal satisfaction he can get out of it. Although some people might think he's crazy for even attempting such a stunt, saying he'd probably collapse before he even made it halfway around, LeRoy is determined to circumvent Lake Winnebago on foot.

Kenneth Roloff, standout football and basketball player at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point during the 50s will be honored by his alma mater with an induction ceremony into the UW Stevens Point Hall of Fame.

 

September 7, 1973

Kaukauna Business associates elected Lloyd Vercauteren president of the association. James Brogan was elected vice president and Martin Janssen was reelected treasurer.

Chris Boyson, Appleton, is the winner of both medal play and match play junior championship at Fox Valley Golf club this year.

 

September 12, 1973

Kaukauna attorney Irving Curry III has been named chairman of the Heart of the Valley United Fund campaign.


The removal of the nation's freeze on beef and other meat products prices should bring Kaukauna shoppers the lowest prices seen for a while at the meat departments.

Breaking ground made dirt fly Monday as Mayor Robert LaPlante and Badger Northland president Gail Janssen and senior vice-president Darwin Kettering in charge of operations for the Massey-Ferguson Corp. dug at the site of its new plant at the corner of highways 00 and 55.

 

September 14, 1973

Kaukauna police Patrolman Thomas Carpenter, 27, was treated and released from the Kaukauna Community Hospital Tuesday afternoon after his three wheeled motorcycle was struck in the rear by automobile driven by a Kaukauna motorist. Carpenter had stopped for stop sign and was struck from behind. he was treated for a sprained back and neck after the accident.

Bad news for the Ghost starting senior halfback Jerry Schneider, one of the mainstays of the Ghost outside running attack. Jerry tore a muscle and severely bruised his right knee during practice Wednesday. He is expected to be out of action for at least three weeks.


September 21, 1973

Gaining 466 yards all but eleven of them on the ground the Hollandtown Golden Raiders humiliated the Muskego Chargers 40-0 Sunday at Doty Bayorgeon Field extending their winning streak to three games this season. In each of the Raiders’ three games a different player turned out to be the spark plug. Against Downers Grove in the opening game of the year Mike School romped for 177 yards and scored two touchdowns last week Dan Giordana went 153 yards and two touchdowns. This week Chuck McDaniel stole the spotlight accumulated 177 yards and broke clear for two long scores, one on the interception and other on a kickoff return.


September 28, 1973

Four of Kaukauna’s firemen, students in an emergency medical technician class at St. Elizabeth Hospital observe a demonstration of the revival of a heart attack victim. Left to right Wayne Vanevenhoven, Dr. F. Mark Moore, Joe Gasper, Jerald Kobussen, and Bruce Mathis.
