A number of Neenah women had an exciting experience in
the streetcar at that place. The driver lost control of the brake at the top of
a hill and the car went down the grade at the rate of thirty miles an hour.
Luckily the occupants escaped with only a severe shaking up.
Marshall Kuehn picked up an odd-looking load off the
streets here last Sunday night, consisting of a man, a wife and a little child,
the couple being intoxicated, ragged and in a half-frozen condition. They were
driving an old Crow bait of a horse whose days on earth are only numbered by
the time it takes humane agent Wilkie to get around here. The worthless
vagabonds gave their name as Prasingham and were lodged in the cooler for
keeping. The poor little half frozen child was taken in charge by marshal Kuehn
and will be turned over to Wilkie on Monday.
Fond du Lac
Wis., Jan. 5 –Annie Morris, alias
Frank Blunt, the woman who has tried to be a man for the last 15 years, was
sentenced to the penitentiary for one year by judge Gilson this morning. She
was arrested several months ago in Milwaukee, charged with stealing $175 in
Fond du Lac. It was then discovered that the prisoner was a woman although she
had worn muscular attire during all of her life.

Slot machines are getting altogether too numerous in
Kaukauna. Wouldn't it be a good idea to have the machines licensed before they
are left in the city?
A boxing match took place at Menasha Monday between
Jack Powers of Kaukauna and “Cooper” McCoy, Chicago. McCoy proved to be the
most scientific man of the two, but he couldn’t stand the sledge-hammer blows
delivered by Powers and the fight was stopped in the sixth round in favor of
Powers.
The pupils of Holy Cross School enjoyed a sleigh ride
to Little Chute on Monday.
A large
addition will be made to the Catholic Church at Little Chute this season. 100
cords of stone for this purpose were purchased recently.
Humane agent Wilkie made a trip to Appleton for the
purpose of arresting a number of persons at that place who attended a cock
fight recently. He discovered that the guilty parties were city officials and
prominent citizens. The matter was amicably settled, and he returned to Oshkosh
with the understanding that Appleton residents will have nothing more to do
with cockfights.
