The new 55 mile an hour speed limit which went
to effect in December has cost just over $28,000 for converting speed limit
signs on Wisconsin highways.
Members of the Public Protection and Safety
committee requests Kaukauna officials to look into acquiring a new, more fully
equipped ambulance. Carol Van Boxtel, a hospital emergency room nurse, opened
the meeting by outlining the training given to Kaukauna fireman and police
officers under the emergency medical technician EMT program.
Dennis Meulemans, 26, of Wrightstown,
recently returned from spending two years in small developing countries in East
Africa. He was part of the U.S. government agency known as the Peace Corps. He
is pictured in native African attire and a display of artwork he acquired in
Kenya.

Reed Giordana, Kaukauna's
record-breaking quarterback, has been named to the Prep All-America Football
program for 1973-74, as announced today by the editors of Coach & Athlete
Magazine.
Members of Kaukauna City Planning Commission
ended up splitting Monday afternoon on the eventual use of the downtown
southside area known as the old railroad property. Half the commission's
members favored releasing the property as sites for low income and residential
development. The other half opposed and recommending the area be used for retail
development.

Jack Wippich, Kimberly's successful basketball
coach, was recently voted Coach of the Year by the FVA for the 3rd consecutive
year.
March 15, 1974
Bridgework continues on
the Wisconsin Avenue bridge. A crane works on removing materials in preparation
for the service.
A missing headache ball is no longer a headache
for Kaukauna Police Department or the Edward Kramer and Son construction
Company. Police Lieutenant Dean Ball reported yesterday. The 300 lb. ball was
located in the trunk of an unregistered car in Appleton. “I'm not going to try
to lift it,” he declared with a chuckle. The headache ball is used as a weight
at the end of a crane cable on the Wisconsin Ave. bridge removal project. The
ball was taken March 5th, according to a witness.
March 20, 1974
Carla Ploetz slammed a 633 National Honor Count
last Thursday night at the Bowling Bar, her third of the season. Miss Ploetz
opened with a 256 then a 200 and followed with a 177 game.
March 22, 1974
Kaukauna grocery stores. will be allowed to
obtain liquor licenses in the future as a result of a Common Council action
Tuesday night. A tie vote was broken by Mayor Bayorgeon who cast in favor of
the licenses.
March 29, 1974
Kaukauna’s Bob Zierler won the heavyweight
championship in the novice division of the Fond du lac Amateur Boxing
Tournament recently.
The American Legion has called upon all
Americans to join in the observances of Vietnam Veterans Day, March 29, as
proclaimed by President Nixon.
The Wisconsin division of motor vehicles today
recommended motorists that they remove studded snow tires on or before April
1st.
