May 1, 1974

Champions of today and yesterday were honored at the 1974 KHS All Sports Banquet Inductions into the Hall of Fame. Seated left to right Pat Flanagan, Phil Hass, George Schwenderman, Willis Ranquette and Joseph Sadlier, who was recognized as the outstanding KHS fan. Present day MVP’s second row, Karen Wyngaard and Barb Derus and third row Jeff Van Dyn Hoven, Scott Lunda, Reed Giordana, Frank Bouressa, Dave Killian and Dale Carnot.

Not so long ago, girls who were interested in athletics on a high school level could become cheerleaders, pom-pom or just sit on the side lines. “You’ve come a long way baby,” now girls at Kaukauna High School can participate in WIAA sanctioned volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, and track for the first time.

Prom – Senior representatives Terry Schmidt and Dianne Potter, King Frank Bouressa and Queen Martha Kappell and sophomores Dennis Van Dyn Hoven and Laura Twesme.

 

May 3, 1974

Ronald Vanden Langenberg may be one of the luckiest kids around these days. The five-year-old somehow managed to get inside a fence surrounding a 4,000-volt transformer on Catherine Street. Ronald climbed on top of the transformer and there came in contact with terminals fed by a 7,200-volt line. He received burns on his left arm and left side of his chest and is recovering at Kaukauna Community Hospital.  


May 8, 1974

Kimberly center Chuck Ruys has received an honorable mention in the Wisconsin Press Association All State basketball team. Tom Goff, Kaukauna Times sportswriter is shown presenting the award to Chuck.





While Kaukauna postman George Vanden Hogen said a silent prayer for his brother the man buried in the sewer trench near St. Mary’s School which caved in Friday morning. Joseph Vanden Hogen, 40, an Oshkosh resident pronounced dead at the scene. He was employed by the Central Contracting Co. of Oshkosh. Workmen and Kaukauna firemen worked for about 20 minutes to extricate him from below 15-foot-deep trench.      

 

Three Kaukauna High School juniors will attend Badger boys and girls state at the University of Wisconsin Madison this summer sponsored by the American Legion Post 41 of Kaukauna. Debra Hash, Tom Vaubel and Greg Curry III


May 17, 1974

Prescription number 1,000,000 was filled at the Look Drug Stores, south location, on Monday, May 13. Pictured is Mrs. William Kessler being presented with the prescription filled by Parmascist Vincent Hammar. Looking on are Pharmacists John Scherer and Arthur Mongin, Jr., and Keith Van Asten, Intern.  

Jim Meyers of Darlington has been selected out of 170 total applications as head basketball coach at Kaukauna High School and will serve on the faculty as a social studies and physical education teacher. The announcement of the hiring of Meyers was made at the meeting of the Kaukauna Board of Education Tuesday afternoon.


May 22, 1974

The public is invited to attend an open house today at the new Kaukauna Klub cheese production facility on Hwy “OO”. The 87,000 square foot plant houses production, laboratory, offices, retail store and cold and dry storage.


Ray and Jan Van Zeeland combined for 1271 series to take first place in the Kaukauna Athletic Club’s Mixed Couples Bowling Tournament. 325 entries participated in the tournament.


May 24, 1974

A Milwaukee man was transferred to St. Mary’s Burn Center in Milwaukee Wednesday following an accident at Thilmany’s lower mill during the past week. Thomas Hubbard, a tank truck driver, was unloading a flammable liquid when a cigarette he was lighting ignited some of the liquid on his clothing. He was treated at Kaukauna Community Hospital then transferred to Milwaukee.
