Sam Young has been
appointed the new head football coach and Harry Wilson appointed assistant
coach replacing Sam Dubow. Young comes to Kaukauna from Black River Falls where
he was head football coach. Wilson has been the assistant coach at Park Falls.
He will be the social studies, citizenship and history teacher in addition to
his duties as assistant coach.
A rural Kaukauna man, Clifford Lambie, 64, was
killed Tuesday afternoon when a tractor he was operating overturned on him.
Only five students made a straight A for the
fifth six weeks.

Kaukauna’s Galloping Ghost baseball team edged
a 1-0 victory over a rugged Bulldog team from New London. Veteran left hander,
Joe Van Linn struck out 17 opposing batters for Kaukauna.

Al Marzahl was named commander of Post 41 of
the American Legion held May 3 at the Legion Club rooms and Art Kromer, Jr.,
was chosen vice commander.
May 13,
1955
Cub Pack 27, consisting of 42 members, recently
renewed its charter. The new officers are: Cubmaster, Frank Hertz; assistant
cubmasters, Wm Reinke, Jr. and Ted Gloudeman; secretary-treasurer, Joseph
Jirikowic; advancement officer, Mervin Hansen; pack chairman. Charles Schaefer;
and activities, Nic Bordini.
Camp Winnecomac, the recently completed Girl
Scout Day Camp, located off Cty. Hy. “Q” east of Kaukauna will be dedicated
Sunday afternoon May 15.
Officers for the coming year for the Kaukauna
Post 3319 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars were elected at the regular monthly
meeting at the VFW hall. Robert Sanders being elected the new commander,
succeeding Cliff Woods. Steve Andrejeski was selected as vice commander.

newcomers to Park Kindergarten was observed as members of the class had a

A total of 520 first and second grade
youngsters in Kaukauna will be inoculated with the Salk Polio Vaccine according
to Mrs. Thomas Pearman, city nurse.

Dr. G. J. Flanagan was honored by the city of
Kaukauna as the common council voted to draw up a resolution of commendation.
“Dr. Flanagan served as health officer for many years and was always willing to
help to make Kaukauna a better place to live.” Mayor Joseph Bayorgeon said.
May 25,
1955
The 1955 Kaukauna High
School baseball team tied for the championship in the Mid-Eastern conference
with Menasha, registering a 6-1 record. The team's record over the past three
seasons is 36-5.
The south side Look Drug Stores has been
remodeled and is now a self-service type of store. This announcement was made
by Art Mongin, manager. This is the first drug store of this type in
Kaukauna.
May 27,
1955
Guy Krumm, athletic director and teacher at
Kaukauna High School, was named president of the Kaukauna Lions club Tuesday
evening. The Lions have recently made a sizeable contribution to the Kaukauna
Community hospital with a check of $1,200.
Barbara Jean Schmidt
was the little lady who sold the first poppy of the year to Mayor Joseph
Bayorgeon at his office. Looking on during the event American Legion Auxiliary
members Mrs. Fred DePatie, Mrs. Loyal Belongia and Mrs. Fred Mason.
Two Kaukauna youths were drafted and ordered to
report for induction on Wednesday May 11. They are Mark Biese and Clayton Huss.
A/3C Michael F. Miller has completed his
basic training in San Antonio, Texas and will leave Monday for Sheppard
Airforce base where he will enroll in Mechanics school.
Airman Second Class
David W. Klau
is stationed in the control center of the Headquarters of the 9th
Air Division squadron at Geiger Field, Spokane, Washington.
Joseph J. Smith enlisted in the Navy on April 20th. He is currently undergoing nine weeks of recruit training at the U.S. Navy Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.
Pfc. Gilbert Wettstein is currently serving
with a motor transport division of the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea.
