August 2, 1935
According to a report received today from
Andrew Whittaker, lifeguard at the Reichel pond, swimmers at the pond during
the month of July totaled 3,343. First aid was administered to only one person
in July, and none was administered in June.
August 9, 1935
H. F. Weckwerth, manager of the Kaukauna
utility states this morning that drilling of the new city well has reached a
depth of about 330 feet. The well is expected to furnish a larger quantity of
water than other city wells and will be of a softer variety.
August 20, 1935
During the weekend seven motorists were
arrested and paid fines, four for speeding, two for reckless driving and one
for jumping an arterial.


A
beautiful new bridge across the Fox River at Wrightstown was formerly dedicated
Sunday, August 5. The two-day dedication program was planned by leading
officials and businessmen. Thousands thronged the streets and village park. The
observation started with a parade which moved across the new bridge. Cities and
villages throughout the area had floats and marching bands in the parade.
August 23, 1935
One FERA project was closed this week when
workmen completed work on the high school lawn. Projects still in progress are
laying of the water main, sewer, on Wisconsin Avenue and Main Avenue along with
northside and southside sidewalks. Sixty-nine persons were employed including
61 men and 8 women. A total of $770.75 was paid in wages.
Valley council’s summer camp at Gardner Dam on
the Wolf River was closed on Sunday after six weeks of successful camping. Over
260 boys were in camp during this period.
August 27, 1935
Fire Chief Henry Esler of the fire department
will have difficulty climbing laddered during the next few days because of an
injury he received Monday morning when he was wedged between two cars. He was
conversing with a motorist in front of the municipal building at the time the
postoffice truck backed into him.
Robert Miller, five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Miller, is confined to the hospital recovering from injuries he received when he ran into the road and was run over by an automobile. The tires passed over his chest, but no bones were found broken. It is a miracle he was not badly injured.

Mr. and Mrs. William Bay of Kaukauna have seen
the Dionne quintuplets at Callander, Ontario, Canada. They passed through there
last Saturday while on a trip to Montreal. They stated the children all look
very pretty and healthy.
