Even at 8 am shoppers were on the streets for
Kaukauna’s Sidewalk Sale Day yesterday and continued throughout the day despite
the temperature in the 90’s.
The failure of a capacitor bank at the Badger
Hydroelectric station caused a loss of power to a larger section of Kaukauna
and part of Little Chute Wednesday night at about 11 p.m. Power was restored in
about 30 minutes.
Residents that happened to be in Kaukauna bars
between 11 and 11:35 Wednesday evening found out the hard way when a power
failure plunged most of the city back to the pre-Edison days. One thing you can always do, lights or no lights,
is drink and according to random sample of 14 area tavern patrons did a lot of
that during the blackout.
Lights on the football field?
Against the Lights - The group opposing
the lighted football field are running an ad in today’s Times urging citizens
to attend next Tuesday’s council meeting. You should ask “Where are your
priorities when it comes to spending your tax dollars?”
In Favor of the Lights – In an ad in today’s
Times people are being urged to “Help Light up Night Sports in Kaukauna”.

King and Queen of the Hollandtown Schut – Mr.
and Mrs. Hugo “Butch” Vande Yacht. The velvet cape and silver bird are the
King’s to wear for a year.
It was dark throughout Nicolet school Friday
morning. In the building the victims of a boiler explosion waited for treatment
from 30 or so firemen, police officers and other rescue workers. Rescuers using
medical supplies from the Outagamie County Emergency Government moved from
child to child treating injuries. It sounded real and it looked real when the
teams went into action in a test drill.

The hassle over exactly what the population of
Kaukauna is appears to have been settled. In January of this year the city was
notified that its population appeared to have dropped from 1970. This drop
resulted in the city losing an estimated $2,700 in shared revenue funds. The
mistake was clarified using a computer analysis.

Kaukauna Rotary’s contribution to furnishing
the new Kaukauna library addition came in the form of a $300 check, the profits
from the Rotary brat stand during Sidewalk Days. Librarian Craig Lahm and
library board president Cliff Femal accepted the check from Rotary members
Roger Anderson and Tony Klapperich.

Someone’s been doing a little illicit gardening
in the city, police reported this week. Officers reported that they had found a
small neatly tended marijuana stand near Konkapot Creek below Beaulieu Hill.
The garden was discovered by a nearby resident curious was what kind of plant
was growing there? Officers weeded the garden and destroyed the crop.
While golfing with her husband Gene, Sunday,
Pat Lambie scored a hole-in-one at Mid-Valley Golf Course. The ace was scored
on the 133-yard hole.
Summer vacation is over for these boys and it’s
back to school this week. David Sachs, Steve Geiger and Barry Sachs took
advantage of the last days of “freedom” by catching carp from the Fox River.
