The Electric City Brewers, Kaukauna semi-pro
team, defeated the Menasha Merchants here Sunday afternoon in an evenly fought
contest 7 to 0.
Signs were posted around the new state wildlife
refuge in Kaukauna on the part of the Fox River known as “The Thousand
Islands." The piece of land has been set aside by the Wisconsin
Conservation Commission as a state refuge and will mean no more hunting in this
district for any kind of waterfowl. This is the most wonderful site in the
state for a wildlife refuge.
Kaukauna high school won its first conference
game at the expense of the Neenah’s Redmen Saturday 24 to 13.
October 12, 1934
R. H. McCarthy, chief
of police, was re-elected secretary of The Wisconsin Chief of Police
Association at the annual convention held at Wisconsin Rapids.
October 16, 1934
Richard Peeters was elected president of the
Little Chute band to succeed Stephen M. Peeters, who resigned last Monday.
October 19, 1934
A total of two thousand have visited the
historical Grignon home in this city from its opening on July 11 until it was
closed to the public this week, according to a report from Mrs. Ross C.
Grignon, who has been in charge.
Two new scouts were admitted to Boy Scout troop
No. 27 at a meeting Tuesday evening in St. Mary’s auditorium. They were James
Gertz and Arnold Vaubel.
October 23, 1934
Marcus Nigl has been
selected as Editor-in-chief of the 1935 edition of the Kaukauna High School
"Papyrus" annual school publication. Miss Germaine Kalupa has been
selected business manager. Both young people are members of the senior class.
October 26, 1934
Wisconsin’s 1935 automobile license plates are
going to be stylish. The new Badger tags will have white numerals on a black
background.
Mayor John H. Nelson makes a statement to
the press today outlining in various reasons why the proposed addition to the
high school in the form of two buildings, an auditorium and a gymnasium should
be built.
Melvin “Buddy” Sager was to have an audition
over the NBC network this week. This is Sager’s big chance and if he makes
good, he will undoubtedly be given a contract over the station. Most Kaukauna
people are familiar with Sager’s singing and Playing.

Hollywood - Bobby Leroy
and Shirley Temple, the little movie stars whose weekly salaries come in four
figures, were spotted on their first "date" when they stopped for
milk on their way to the theatre.
The Chicago Bears gained victory number seven
at the expense of the Green Bay Packers Sunday afternoon with 11,000 looking on
at Wrigley Field 27-14.
