Time Machine Trip to June 1929

June 4, 1929

Leo Rabideau was named captain of the 1930 track team of the Kaukauna High School at a meeting of letterman held Friday. Rabideau holds the record for Northeastern Wisconsin Interscholastic conference in the 880-yard run setting a record at the track meet last week.

June 7, 1929
Sixty-six members of the class of 1929 of Kaukauna High School are to receive their diplomas this Friday evening at commencement exercises held at the Kaukauna auditorium. The class will be presented by J. F. Cavanaugh, local superintendent of schools.

Mayor W. C. Sullivan today issued orders to the local Police Department to send out of the city the “hawker” who attracted a crowd with his salesmanship and free show at the corner of 2nd St and Main Ave Monday night. The salesman has misrepresented his goods and the mayor issued orders that the license which he had be revoked.



Emmett Rohan, of this city and star distance runner on the University of Marquette track team has been one of the four Marquette track stars to be nominated for entry into the 9th annual national collegiate track and field meet in Chicago tomorrow.



June 11, 1929
John Schwartz of Chicago is the new King of Schut. The honors were bestowed at the 78th revival of the famous group stage at Saint Francis at Holland town.

June 18, 1929

The resignation of Elmer Ott, for the past year athletic director and member of the high school faculty of Kaukauna school was tendered to the local Board of Education Monday evening. He has accepted a position to act as assistant business manager at Lawrence College, Appleton.

Hearings on ouster proceedings against sheriff Fred W. Giese, Outagamie County sheriff, by district attorney Staidt were held Monday afternoon at Municipal Court at Appleton and continue this week. The proceedings against Sheriff Giese due to his refusal to resign. Sheriff Giese denies the charges including allegations that money had been paid to the Sheriff's Office for protection and that slot machines which were confiscated have been resold. 

June 21, 1929
L. C. Wolf, city clerk, has a new job, according to a letter received from the state veterinarian and this job is to go out and shoot dogs running loose in the county. Just how Louie will succeed in chasing the canines remains to be seen but reports have it that he has applied to chief McCarty for a forty-five to do the business.  

Little Chute - Theodore Lenz, 39 years of age, a resident of Little Chute was killed Tuesday afternoon at Riverside Fiber and Paper Company, either electrocution or a fractured skull causing his death. His body was found on an elevator shaft. His skull was fractured, and the fall resulted in hitting an electric cable.

June 25, 1929
Twenty-five men in the car shops at Chicago Northwestern Railroad Company in Kaukauna will be out of work at the local shops at the close of the first shift on June 29th. The bulletin States that all car shop workman receive a permanent layoff.

Life is short and hard for most of us and every effort should be made to make the span of years we have on earth as comfortable and easy as possible. There are many things that go to makeup a comfortable modern farm home, amongst them being running water, refrigeration, heat in all rooms, modern bathrooms, electric lighting, telephone, power for heavy work and sewage disposal.


About two hundred Kaukauna housewives are expected to attend the Kaukauna Times cooking school at the auditorium, with Miss Bernez C. Lowe, home economist and food specialist, as instructor.
