June 2, 1982

Kaukauna high school graduate Michael Grode was awarded the prestigious Lang Trophy for 1982.


Horseless carriages will be a part of the western setting at Kaukauna’s La Follette Park this weekend as St. Mary Parish sponsors its annual summer “Wrangler Days.” The two-day picnic and auction will take place on June 5 and 6.

Susan Pearl Gast, a 1978 graduate of Kaukauna High School, was among the 82 nursing students at Viterbo College, La Crosse. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Commencement exercises. She has accepted employment at the Appleton Memorial Hospital.

Leone Faust, 14, proudly displays her award following the honoring of 39 young people by Governor Lee Dreyfus for bravery on May 12 at the Capitol rotunda. Pictured with Leone are Clifford Krueger, State Senator and her mother, Mrs. Neil (Lois) Faust of Rhinelander. Leone was cited for the rescue of children she was babysitting when a fire broke out in the home. Leone is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Hansen and Mrs. Leone Faust of Kaukauna.  


June 4, 1982

Common Council members went along with a plan by Mayor Ronald Van De Hey to borrow another $1.6 million to cover this month’s payrolls and bills and add another $1.4 million to cover a long-standing deficit.


June 8, 1982

The state Fire Marshal’s office has called in to investigate a fire reported Friday at a residence on Plank Road in Kaukauna. A fire began in the basement and another fire was found in a bedroom in another part of the building.


June 10, 1982

Sandra Anne Weyers, 22 Kaukauna, will be among the twelve finalists vying to be selected the 1882 “Alice in Dairyland”.


The Board of Public Works members endorsed a plan to raise sewer user fees by ten per cent and to establish a monthly billing charge. The Heart of the Valley Metro Sewer District billed Kaukauna $16,000 more than it collected from residents in the first four months of this year.

Amy Schmidt was chosen as the Most Valuable Player for the 1982 varsity girls softball season at Kaukauna High School. 


June 24, 1982

When the old Fiscal Control Board met at school budget time last year the result was that the Kaukauna Board of Education reduce spending by $250,000. This year the board requests the items that were removed from the library and other school programs should be refunded.
