The city council Tuesday night approved the purchase of a 1000-gallon pumper unit the Kaukauna Fire Department.
St. Mary’s and Holy Cross Grade schools entered
a new Parochial football conference this year. The new requirements are
seriously cutting into St. Mary’s according to coach Amsey Mauel. Rules
prohibit participants from being over 150-pounds. Pat Landreman and Jerry
Eppinger are hovering at the 153 mark and Leslie Schultz is at 158.
September 10, 1952
Arthur C. Look and Arthur H. Mongin, Jr. who formed a
partnership in 1948 to operate the Walgreen Agency Drug Stores in Kaukauna.

Larry’s Piggly Wiggly supermarket on Dodge Street checks out the stock on the
shelfs.
Two grand openings here today—Look Drug Store
North Side this morning and Larry’s Piggly Wiggly Supermarket tonight. Looks announces “everything new” in the store
which was purchased in April from Henry G. Bauer, who operated it for 36 years
previously. Everyone is invited to
attend the big open house tonight of Larry’s Piggly Wiggly in the former Moose
building at 215 Dodge Street. The Grand Opening of Larry’s new Piggly Wiggly
supermarket at 215 Dodge street is the culmination of a belief by Larry
Verhagen that his kind of store would succeed in Kaukauna. Six years ago, he
opened his first self-service supermarket at the corner of Third and Main.
Fred Barribeau, teacher, and
assistant football coach has been named head coach of the Kaukauna high
basketball team by T. H. Boebel replacing Asher Shorey who resigned a week ago
to take a position at Crandon.
September 12, 1952
Mrs. Thomas P. Pearman was appointed the new
city nurse by the Kaukauna Board of Health Monday evening.
The Holy Cross Patrol consists of 35 girls and
27 boys for the 1952-53 school year. For the girls Joann Faust will be the
captain and Judith Welter the lieutenant. Captain of the boys is Ronald Welter
and lieutenant is Leonard Mauel.
September 19, 1952
Take her dancing at least one a week at the beautiful Nitingale. Sunday September 21, in person, Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra. October 13 will be Sammy Kaye Nite.
A young Kaukauna boy narrowly escaped death
late Wednesday afternoon when he was accidently shot by a 22-caliber bullet
while walking near the railroad track between Kaukauna and Combined Locks.
Grazed into the chest just over the heart was 12-year-old David Mitchell of
west 7th street. The bullet was removed from between his ribs by a
Kaukauna doctor. A youth told the police he was shooting at targets and did not
see the boy.
September 24, 1952
The Grand Opening of Rennicke’s Beer Depot on 205 Dodge Street will be September 26-27-28. Rennicke’s moved into the former Lehrer Meat market building.
September 26, 1952
Father Peter D. Van Dyke, 34, army captain and
chaplain and a former Kaukauna boy recently received the Silver Star for
gallantry in action in ceremonies in Korea. Father Van Dyke was cited while
serving with the 17th Infantry Regiment.
A $750,000 building permit was issued Monday to
the Holy Cross parish for the construction of its new school.
