September 5, 1962

Miss Lindy Kemp added another trophy to her impressive collection early this summer, as she was selected the most valuable player in a State women’s softball tournament held at Janesville, WI. The trophy was perhaps the costliest to her since she sustained a fractured left leg in the game when she collided with another player.  

 

September 7, 1962

Golf champions were named at Fox Valley Golf Club this weekend.  They included Terry Biersteker, Jim Lang, Lew Cattanach, Bob Minkebige, Ted Maas and Tom Bongers.

 

The Kaukauna Youth Center will open for its 18th season tonight according to directors Fred Barribeau and Francis DeBruin. All youngsters of high school age are eligible to join the Center.

September 14, 1962

Kaukauna Public School enrollment is set at 2175.  This total is up 262 from last year.

 

William Rogers, junior alderman from Kaukauna’s fifth ward Tuesday gained the Democratic nomination as candidate for Wisconsin assemblyman.

The effects of the strike on the Thilmany Pulp and Paper Company operations at Kaukauna continues to be serious and extremely costly, but through the substitution of transportation facilities other than usual rail operations on the C&NW, the plant continues to operate at normal capacity.

One of the familiar Lawe Street landmarks in Kaukauna, the Melchert Standard Service station, was razed Wednesday afternoon to make way for a new station.  The Melchert station is the second oldest in Kaukauna being built a couple of months after the Balza station on the corner of Third and Main in 1923.

 

September 21, 1962

Park School Kindergarten Class 1962-63

The Kaukauna Galloping Ghost football team, which tied the existing record for consecutive wins midway in the 1961 season will be going for its 18th straight victory this afternoon as they square off against the Menasha Blue Jays at the Little Chute field.

 

Kaukauna is expected to renew its contract for a dump site upon the recommendations of the Board of Public Works with Richard and Joseph Lehrer for a five-year term. This contract will be at the existing rate of $450 per month with a stipulation for a $10 per month increase each year for the five-year period. 

 

September 26, 1962

The Kaukauna Electric and Water Department manager Norbert Rhinerson reported this week that under all probabilities Kaukauna’s home football games will have to be played on another field this year. The sod on the new field wouldn’t be ready for use until the end of the year.
