October 5, 1982

Kevin Hohn, of the Kaukauna High School cross country team, heads down the final straightaway towards the finish line at Countryside Golf Club.

 

Cable Vision of the Fox Cities has announced increases in rates. Monthly service for cable will rise from the present $7.50 to $9.00 and Home Box Office will go from $6.95 extra to $9.05.

 

Paul Hammond, Whitney Street, is the creator of the “woodmobile” Paul is a ninth-grade student at Oshkosh North High School.

 

October 12, 1982

John Mau, Kaukauna realtor, was installed as president of the Fox Valley Board of Realtors at their recent meeting. As the owner of Mau Reality, he was cited by the board for his efforts to promote the right of every individual to own property.

 

Removal of the present Wisconsin Ave. lift bridge will begin this month according to the timetable prepared by engineers.

 

In the 13th season of their franchise in Wisconsin the Milwaukee Brewers proved 13 isn’t that bad. The Brewers are champions of the American League defeating the California Angel in the best of 5 series Sunday in Milwaukee.

 

October 21, 1982

Jaclyn Marie Huss, daughter of Chuck and Joan Huss, is thanking all the sixth graders who attended the 27th annual Babysitters Clinic, sponsored by the Kaukauna Homemakers Club.

 

Ninety-three students participated in the Kaukauna Homemakers Annual Babysitters Clinic held Saturday at the high School.

 

October 28, 1982

Dana Krieck was the first girl to ever earn a spot on the Kaukauna high school golf team. She is shown with her brother Dan.


The Bottom Half clothing retailer is the first recipient of a low-interest loan arrangement through the Kaukauna Redevelopment Authority. The store on Wisconsin Ave. was destroyed by a fire in May. Donald Grissman owner of the business has purchased the Berens Clothing store on 2nd Street and plans to remodel the building.

October 1, 1972

Outagamie County Teachers’ College President Elmer Gordon locked the doors of the school for the final time Friday morning.

 

The halls of area schools are filled with the sounds of students in classes, discussion of lectures and outside activities, but at one school, only silence fills the halls. The rooms are empty of all life and the walls are bare of the plaques and student art which once covered them. The Outagamie County Teachers College closed its doors permanently shortly before noon, Friday, after 60 years and more than 3,000 students.

 

October 4, 1972

Students in Kaukauna city schools’ number 3,585 as of September 15 of this year. This is 88 students over 1971 and 2,068 over the 1960 enrollment according to Superintendent of Schools Julian Bichler. 

 

A former Kaukauna High School football standout, Dick Promer, has signed his 10th contract with the Manitowoc County Chiefs of the Central States Football league. Promer, a 6’4’’, 240-pound offensive lineman, came to the Chiefs in 1963 after tryouts with the Atlanta Falcons and the Green Bay Packers. 

 

October 11, 1972

 

It was a fruitful week for the Kaukauna High School volleyball squad. In addition to its third consecutive FVA title the team again also captured its fourth tournament title of the year.

Safe at home is how Todd Lunda plans to spend his birthday today. In addition to being 13 on Friday the 13th he lives at 1313 Glenview Drive.

 

October 25, 1972

The Kaukauna American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 41 celebrated its’ 50th Anniversary this year. The auxiliary was granted the charter on April 24, 1922. A group of legion and auxiliary members meet on promoting the golden anniversary. Seated are Mrs. Norman Meinert, Richard Bohm and Mrs. Oliver Wheaton. Standing are George E. Greenwood, Stanley Lizon, and Steve Andrejeski.   

 

October 27, 1972

Marvin Schumacher was elected President of the Heart of the Valley Chamber of Commerce to fulfill the term of Dave Flanagan who died, October 7. 









A cease fire agreement has been reached in the war in Viet Nam, it was announced Thursday noon. It was disclosed that the first beak in the deadlocked negotiations came on Oct. 8, when Hanoi agreed to the principle of the cease fire.
