Electrical work on the city’s new softball lights should be completed early next week, weather permitting, announced H. F. Weckwerth, manager of the Kaukauna Utility Commission.

 

May 6, 1953

Queen Lois Vils and King Jerry Van De Loo will reign supreme Friday evening when the annual Junior Prom takes place. The theme of this year's affair will be, "Tip Toe Through ' the Tulips."

 

John H. Niesen, 63, 103 West Wisconsin Avenue, businessman and former mayor of Kaukauna, died at Madison General Hospital about 1:00 Friday afternoon, after a two-month illness. Mr. Niesen was elected mayor in 1934 and served in that capacity for two terms.

 

May 13, 1953

Farrell's team won the championship of the Thursday night league at S&B Alleys. Team members include Miss Lorraine Farrell, Mrs. Shirley Hurst, Miss Alice Vils, Miss Lucille Mahn and Mrs. Edith Knapp.


Two Kau Hi student musicians won high honors at the state finals held in Madison Saturday. William Reardon earned first class for his tenor solo, while Patricia Frank earned first for her twirling performance.


May 15, 1953

Kaukauna Lions club bowlers won second place in the State Lions tournament at Eau Claire. Ray Morgan paced the Kaukauna team with 622 series. Leo Coffey cleaned up a 7-10 split. Others on the team are Martin Janssen, Norman Weigman and J. W. Weyenberg.

 

May 20, 1953

Arthur C. Look, Kaukauna businessman, died Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth Hospital as a result of a stroke the day before. Art was the senior partner of Look Drug Stores since his father’s death in 1924 and has been a civic leader in this city for many years.


Folks usually must travel for miles to the Wisconsin Northwoods in hopes of seeing a deer. Monday morning Mrs. Jonen saw a deer lying in the yard adjacent to their home south of Kaukauna. The deer then got up, jumped a fence, and ran into a nearby woods.

 

May 29, 1953


 

Workmen completed installation of a new switchboard system at Thilmany Friday morning. According to officials of the Telephone Company, the changeover increases the capacity from 29 lines to 300 lines.
