Ladies seeking bargains at the second annual Sidewalk Sale resulted in a large crowd on Thursday. Children enjoyed free “kiddie rides” during the sale hours.
Orv Tracy scored a hole in one at Fox Valley Golf
Club 170-yard No. 9 playing with Dr. George Boyd and Lawrence Van Zummeren.
A new building at the
Roloff Manufacturing Company plant in Kaukauna was completed and occupied by a
department of the firm this month, according to a recent announcement by Walter
Roloff, president.
Alice Kappell, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kappell, 1501 Oakridge Drive; and Bill Vanevenhoven,
son of Mr. and Mrs., Orville Vanevenhoven, 705 Gertrude Street, were selected
as the queen and king of the first Fun Fair held Friday afternoon at Kaukauna's
La Follette Park. About 1,000 youngsters were on hand for the festivities.
August 14, 1963
A Kaukauna youth, Leo
Bruecker, 17, was killed, and another injured in a one-car accident when their
car left highway KK south of the city. Injured in the accident is Donald Vander
Loop 19.
Kaukauna Methodist church has removed the steeple
from the rooftop of the church. The bell was called the finest tone in the
valley.” The tower was removed to eliminate a hazard. The church is located at
the corner of Desnoyer and Brothers street.
August 16, 1963
Beginning with the fall
term this year a hot lunch program will be conducted in the public schools. The
lunch will be 35c per day or a $1.50 weekly ticket may be purchased.
Tom Bongers, 16, Little Chute youth scored a
hole-in-one at Fox Valley Golf club Sunday on the 175-yard No. 9 hole.
This 42-inch Northern
pike weighted 19 ½ pounds is displayed by Dan Mayor and Patrick Kenney two Kaukauna
fisherman who caught the fish in Leona, Wisconsin.
August 23, 1963
Earl Schuler coasted home with a 40
on the second for a gross 76, net 69, and victory in the senior golf tournament
at the Fox Valley Club. Taking an early lead with a one over par 36 on the
first round.
Oklahoma, the first summer musical featuring all high school cast, will be presented Saturday and Sunday evening at the Kaukauna Civic auditorium. Curly, the hero of the Rogers and Hammerstein hit show, will be played by James Niesen, the heroine, Laurey, will be played by Jean Schmidt.
Six young men met in World War I and became pals,
one of whom is Nick Mertes of Kaukauna, the men formed a fast friendship during
their days in France with the American Expeditionary Forces. For twenty-six
years the men exchanged Christmas greetings. In 1946 one died but the five-remaining
carried on the tradition. Last Christmas only two remained. Recently Nick
received a letter informing him he is the lone survivor of the six pals from 46
years ago.
