Time Machine trip to November 1913

Kaukauna Times - November 1913

The Kaukauna deer hunters will take their departure tomorrow for various sections of the north in quest for their annual venison allowance.

After spending several months carefully investigating the merit, efficiency, economy, etc., of various streets lighting systems, the Kaukauna Utilities Commission decided at a meeting Tuesday to adopt the General Electric Company's magnetite four ampere arc lamp, and a contract was accordingly closed. Installation of the lights will commence soon.

A temporary place of worship for the Holy Cross congregation has been arranged in the school building. A small altar, one used by Rev. Father Vanden Broeck years ago in the church at Little Chute, has been returned to service here until such time as the Holy Cross congregation can arrange to rebuild.

Photographs and postcards, showing Holy Cross Church before and after its destruction by fire, can be purchased at J. G.  Fechter Store.  The proceeds will go toward the building of the new church fund.

The auto plates for 1914 are to be black and white.

The Kaukauna Fire Department took a lively run at noon Thursday to the stable of the Kaukauna   Lumber and Manufacturing Company only to find that a stove had been unduly fired up to heat a workman's coffee can. The boy who turned in the false alarm wasn't to be found.

Charles Faust had quite a bad loss by fire Tuesday afternoon when four rooms and contents were destroyed in his dwelling house at the corner of Desnoyer and Division streets.

The property owners along the north bank of the government canal have written a letter to the government in an attempt to get the bank cleaned up and terraced. Word was received from the War Department in reply. "It is apparent that the bank near the canal is stable and has never given any trouble and none is anticipated in the future." The request is denied.
