General Dwight D. Eisenhower was elected President of the United States and Kaukauna and the nation set a new voting record. Kaukauna’s record number votes counted 3,996.
An empty car began its wayward tour about 5:00 PM from a spot where Mr. Bernard Weinandt had parked it on Amanda Street. The journey took the car to the right side of the dead-end barrier at the foot of Amanda St along a group of several trees and a telephone pole to which it passed unscathed down the hill across Canal Street and down the canal bank. Fears that the Weinandt young daughter might be trapped in the car resulted in Robert Dreger, 25, diving into the icy water to rescue her from the sinking car. It turned out to be her tiny toy rabbit. Wrecker crews pulled the car about 200 feet down the canal to the first lock where they were able to hoist it out.
General Dwight Eisenhower received 348 votes in
