November 2, 1982

 

Vince and Vonnie Hartzheim cut the cake at their last day in business at the Grill. Their Wisconsin Ave. restaurant is due to become the site of the Chamber of Commerce building. 

November 4, 1982

Democrat Anthony Earl will hold down the state’s top post for the next four years as governor. Earl defeated the Republican challenger, Terry Kohler.

Rep. William Rogers of Kaukauna was elected to his 11^th term in office.

Viewpoint

A friend of mine, and a member of the United States Navy, Debbie Mary Kramer, is a native of Kaukauna. She receives two issues of the Times every week, and I would like to bring to your attention, that your paper is an inspiration to many of her co-workers. Most of us come from large communities but we enjoy the reading of your paper. I find that it reminds me of a happy “Family-like” community.

Mothers Against Drunk Drivers is  newly organized in this area and is making plans to affiliate with the national organization.

November 11, 1982

Amy Weiland, Connie Nytes, and Vicki Lambie of Kaukauna High School were named to the Fox Valley Association’s all-conference varsity girls volleyball team for 1982.

Mervin Hansen started as a printer at the Kaukauna Times 50 years ago. Merv hasn’t hung up his printer’s apron yet but will slow down the pace.  “I received my high school diploma on a Friday and the following Monday I started working at the Kaukauna Times Printing Co. My brother Carl had purchased the company in 1925 and offered me a job there.” “My son Glenn works in the office of the newspaper and my other son Lyle is the production manager of the printing department.”

Sergeant First Class Lyle Hansen, of Combined Locks, was named the “Top Tank Commander” of the 84^th Division Army Reserve while participating at Ft. Ripley, Minnesota. SFC Hansen commanded a crew of four in a M60A3 tank. The competition included day and night operations over the two-week period.

November 16, 1982

Adam Heindel and Dave Schuessler were honored as the Most Valuable Players on defense and offense respectively for the Kaukauna High School 1982 varsity football season.

November 18, 1982

East Wisconsin Saving and Loan Association will soon be opening a new Freedom office. According to Lee Schmalz, President, The finishing touches are being completed this week. 

November 23, 1982

Construction of the new Wisconsin Ave. bridge necessitated draining the navigation canal above the first lock, but contrary to what some people believed nothing curious surfaced when the plug was pulled. All that was found was a tricycle and numerous tires that rolled their last on the north bank hill.

  

Two Kaukauna residents and friends, both had a perfect 300 games. Mike Lewis accomplished the feat Wednesday night at Partner’s Plus on Kaukauna’s northside. Jim Schmidt accomplished his 300 game at Jerry’s Lanes in Kimberly on October 22.
