December 1, 1972
Approximately 100 girls were present at a meeting Tuesday of the Candystripers, a volunteer program for high school girls, sponsored by the Kaukauna Hospital Auxiliary. At the meeting, new volunteers receive the official “candy stripe” red and white pinafore which they wear on the job.
December 6, 1972
A Canadian strike which caused the layoff of a
large number of workers at the Badger-Northland Corporation in Kaukauna has
ended and the company officials hope that the workers can be called back to
work within the week.
December 13, 1972
The Finance and Personnel committee of the
Common Council, in a Monday evening meeting approved negotiations with the
heads of city departments which will result in an average $600 wage increase
for the employees.
December 15, 1972
An employee of the Kaukauna Electric and Water
Utility was reported as shaken up, but not injured following a truck-train
collision Wednesday morning near the KE&W warehouse. Mark Romenesko was
driving one of the boom trucks and was crossing a track when he was struck by a
locomotive of the CNW. The truck was dragged about 45 feet down the track and
Mark was thrown from the cab.
The Holy Cross A team finds themselves all
alone in first place following a brilliant fourth period comeback against St.
Mary’s Appleton 46-44. With only minutes left in the game and down 11 points
the game changed with several steals by Dale Wirth and the shooting of Lee
Huss.
December 22, 1972
Rod Chaganos shook off three
straight opponents in a row to become the Kaukauna Ghosts sole champion in the
Neenah tournament Saturday.
December 27, 1972
Miss Giovanna Russo takes over
the operation of the children’s section of the Kaukauna Public Library next week.
