“Many letter carriers are injured by falls
during the winter months because ice and snow was not cleared from sidewalks
and steps. We would like to remind homes and businesses to take care of this
problem.” said Kaukauna Postmaster Ray Keyzers.
Mark Zuleger, a junior, was selected as the
Most Valuable Player on the varsity team at Kaukauna during the 1982 season.
Zuleger averaged a nifty 39,9 average for the year. He succeeds his brother,
Al, as MVP.
An investigation by OSHA has not been able to
uncover the reason an Appleton man was killed in the man lifter September 9 at
the Thilmany lower mill. Larry R. Mayer. 42, died of massive chest injuries
while being carried on the mechanism.
Kaukauna’s Community Development Department has
been awarded a grant by the State Historical Society of Wisconsin to conduct an
architectural survey of Kaukauna. The city will also be contacting a consulting
firm to prepare designs and develop a plan for the downtown commercial
district.
December 7, 1982
The Kaukauna Area School District and the
Kaukauna Education representatives were unable to come to an agreement on a
salary increase for Kaukauna teachers.
The matter will now go before an arbitrator for a decision. The members
have proposed to increase teachers’ pay to $14,500 annually.
December 9, 1982
Following the Common Council’s acceptance of
the Kaukauna Redevelopment Authority plan, the BPW will purchase the Elks’ Club
building on Second Street and sell it to a group planning the building’s
remodeling.
December 14, 1982
Intervention by the Kaukauna Electric &
Water Utility in opposing a proposed rate increase means that the utility is
due for a refund which will be passed back to customers. Customers will receive
a credit on their bill in the form of a reduced fuel and energy cost
adjustment. The KEW will receive a total of $794,104 to be paid back from the
Wisconsin Public Power Systems.

High School students will be able to take
college level freshman English beginning next semester as part of an
accelerated program.
December 23, 1982
Plans for the Kaukauna Police Department to
handle alarms and dispatch firefighters were approved Tuesday night by the
Common Council. The plan is designed to streamline the two departments that
sometimes-duplicated systems and provide for reduce squad operations by setting
up agreements.
