The Members of an unofficial partnership plan
to split the downtown railroad property land on a 60-40 basis after the land is
purchased from the city.
August 7, 1974
Melvin Skalmusky playing with Howard Verbeten
turned a perfect cribbage hand at Jirikowic Tavern over the weekend. He held
three fives with the jack of clubs and the five of clubs was cut. This was the
first time in 52 years that a perfect hand was made at the tavern.
August 9, 1974
Fred Herbolzheimer, Jr., president of the
Thilmany Pulp & Paper Company of Kaukauna was named a director of
Thilmany’s parent company. The Hammermill Paper Company of Erie, Pennsylvania.
His new duties will be in addition to the duties here.
William Rammer was appointed to the
position as Chief Engineer of Badger Northland Inc. by Gail E. Janssen,
President and General Manager.
August 14, 1974

The State Appeals Board of the Department of
Public Instruction has overturned, and order detaching a portion of the
Kaukauna School District and reattached it to the Little Chute Joint School
District.
People in Kaukauna generally seem to feel that President
Gerald Ford needs the support of the people, that ex-President Richard
Nixon did the right thing in resigning his post but that he should not be
allowed to be immune to prosecution for any alleged crimes committed while in
office.
Go to any sports event or musical there is Mr.
Walter Schmidt. Mr. Schmidt is a person totally committed to making
Kaukauna High School outstanding. Mr. Schmidt began his time at Kaukauna High School
in 1941 as an English teacher. In 1960 he became the high school
principal. Papyrus 74 Kaukauna High School
annual will be dedicated to Mr. Walter Schmidt.
August 23, 1974
New laws covering safety devices on school
buses require that by September 1975 buses be equipped with “stop arms” which
will swing out from the left side of the bus to give divers another warning in
addition to the flashing red lights.
Two properties in Kaukauna that were former
railroad land located downtown were readvertised for bids as the Kaukauna
Development Company did not come forward with the $60,000 required for the
lands purchase.
