July 1, 1982

Federal officials are now beginning to talk in terms of alternate funding for the Fox Locks system. The city would also try again for some commitment of federal dollars to maintain the Wisconsin Avenue lift bridge if the waterway would remain in operation.

July 7, 1982

Jill Mueller The United States achievement Academy has announced that Jill Mueller who will be a senior at Kaukauna High School has been selected to appear in “Profiles Outstanding Young Americans.” Purpose of the national publication is to pay tribute to young people who have shown exceptional achievement in sports and academics.

 

The Kaukauna common council members unanimously approved a proposal for the city to borrow $1.4 million to eliminate projected deficits and raise money for expenditures for the rest of 1982.

 

What’s summer’s all about – A warm day, hot race and cold beer made for a perfect day Sunday for spectators watching the Elks Regatta on the Fox River across from Riverside Park.

 

July 13, 1982

Sister Gregory Lynn (Formerly Linda K. Egan), Kaukauna, was received as a novice in that Community of Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc on Wednesday, July 7th. Linda was given her name as a religious, Sister Gregory Lynn.

Construction of new homes remains very low with only six permits for dwellings issued as of the first of June according to City Inspector Du Wayne Ver Kuilen.

July 15, 1982

Betty Nytes scored a hole-in-one Sunday, July 11th at Fox Valley Golf Club. This was her first ace in 20 years of golfing. She accomplished the task on the 97-yard #8 hole.

 

The Kaukauna Area School District agreed Tuesday to transfer the 25-year-old Harrison School over to the Town of Harrison for a fee of $1.00.

The body of Thomas Erdman, 17, of Kimberly was recovered from the Fox River below the Combined Locks dam. Erdman and a companion were walking near the mill toward Little Chute when the accident occurred.  

July 20, 1982

Sarah Jane Anderson, 18, Wisconsin Ave, Kaukauna, has been selected to compete in the 1982 Miss Wisconsin T.E.E.N.  pageant to be held August 6^th, 7th 8th in Milwaukee. Teens from all over the state will be competing for the title. All contestants are between the ages of 14 and 18.

Michael Gosz of Kaukauna was the winner of the Junior Flight of the Fox Cities Men’s Amateur golf tournament sponsored by the Post Crescent and held at Reid Municipal Golf course in Appleton.

Thomas F. De Bruin was named president and chairman of the board of the Bank of Little Chute by the board of directors  this week. De Bruin succeeds Bernard M. Bongers, who retired from full time service in 1980.

July 22, 1982

Chris Lamers, 16, Little Chute, has been selected as a member of the Green Bay Packers “Sideliners.” The sideliners number 32 female performers. The group will perform at Packer home games in Green Bay and Milwaukee.  

The Lunda Construction Company has submitted the low bid of $3,194,319 for the new Wisconsin Avenue lift bridge. Outagamie County has pledged that it will provide up to one half of the cost of the bridge. 

July 27, 1982

Karl Borree of Kaukauna, who played strong safety for the North All-Stars in the Shrine High School football game Saturday night at Titan Stadium, gave the large group of fans a brief thrill in the final play of the game. Borree picked up a South fumble and scampered 20 years toward pay dirt before being knocked out of bounds near midfield.   The North lost to the South 23-7.

Linda Deering was picked as the Most Valuable Player from the 1982 season for the Kaukauna high school varsity girls track team. She competed for four seasons on the varsity track squad. 

 

The Kaukauna High School Pom Pon Squad front to rear Polly Paalman, Brenda Kobussen, Lynn Schmidt and Desseria Benotch as well as Mary Feldkamp and Kim Kroll, Audrey Pike and Michelle Zuelke, Michelle Oskey and Lynn Banaszynske, Sheila Sanders and Sara Weyenberg and Pam Malkowski and Jane Miller (absent). The squad will participate in the Allstate Open Pom Pon meet August 8 at State Park.
