July 2, 1952

Pictured in the canteen on the base at Fort Lawton, Seattle, Washington are John Nytes, Glenn Horn, Kenneth Robel and Douglas George all former Kaukauna men now serving in the U.S. Army.  


John Daley died Sunday at his home on Eighth Street. He was a veteran of the Spanish American War of 1898.


July 9, 1952

Five sisters were at a wedding party at Little Chute last week. Daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Cy Ebben.  They are Eunice, the bride, Sheila and Ruth, bridesmaids, Mary Ann, junior bridesmaid and Elaine, flower girl. The groom is Lt. Roger F. Verstegen. 


A landmark building in Kaukauna, the Lehrer building on Dodge Street, was purchased Monday by Rennicke’s Beer Depot, according to Richard Rennicke, manager of the beer depot. The location had been the site of a meat market in Kaukauna since Joseph Lehrer, Sr., first opened his store in 1894.


Jerome Huss was elected to succeed Fred Mason as commander of the Kaukauna American Legion by the members of the legion.


July 11, 1952

Thilmany Pulp and Paper Company received an award from the National Safety Council for working 1,110,000 man-hours in the bag mill without and accident. Almira DeBruin and Clifford H. Kemp received the award on behalf of Thilmany.


July 16, 1952

One group of beginning swimmers at the city pool. Merdie and Jackie Lewendowski, Pat McGrath, Kathy, Robert, and Jackie Eslien. Red Cross instructor is Miss Sally Strom. 


Two Kaukauna girls on an airplane over the Atlantic today have hopes of getting back the trunks of luggage which the Russians took from their roller-skating show in the east zone of Germany. Marge Stokes and Elaine Look stated in a letter dated July 9th. “The Russians have accused us of stealing everything we’ve bought in Europe. Everything we own is there. They say our trunks are twenty miles in the Russian Zone and everything is open all over the highway. No one can get into the zone besides the Russians.”


The Green Bay Packers will launch their 34th season of pro football with the opening of training at Grand Rapids, Minn., Monday July 28. Coach Gene Ronzani, starting with his third year with the Packers will take 50 members of the ‘51 season and members of the college draft list to camp.

Seaman James Swedberg of Kaukauna won this golf trophy for the championship in the Eighth naval distract golf tournament in New Orleans. Rear Admiral T.G.W. commander of the district presents the trophy.


July 30, 1952

Swimming Meet Winners who participated in the finals of the city’s annual Swimming and Diving meet. Winners are Vivian Blaha, Joann Faust, Donna Kenney, Betty Wettstein, Janice Woelz, Angela Hennes, Paul Martzahl, and Bobby Trude.


Preparations are nearing readiness at Riverside Park for the Veterans of Foreign Wars annual Water Regatta, to be held here August 16 and 17.  Over the weekend the members built the lengthy dock needed to handle the expected 90 racers and hydroplanes.


Contract negotiations have been completed between the Thilmany Pulp and Paper Company and the local union. The new agreement provides for a general wage increase of 4c per hour for hourly employees and an increase of 3c per hour in shift differential.
