The unofficial
"swan song" for the Dodge Street baseball diamond will be played on Sunday
as the Kaukauna Klubbers play host to Fond du Lac in what is expected to be the
final adult game in the park as it now stands. The present field is the same
field used when the sport of baseball was introduced in Kaukauna back in the
1890's, and the grandstand that will soon be razed was built in 1922, following
a major storm that destroyed the original. The changes are due to the erection
of the new addition to the high school, which is on the grounds of the old
football field. The ball diamond is being moved to make room for a new football
field and track, and a new diamond will also be constructed, in addition to
tennis courts, an outdoor basketball court and three softball diamonds,
according to the present plans, which call for a long-term project, covering a
number of years.
