July 4, 1972
David J. Flanagan has been elected to
his first term as president if the Heart of the Valley Chamber of Commerce.
As the result of a public relations program,
the city of Kaukauna may get 1600 man-hours of civic improvement work done by the
U. S. Army Reserve. The 100 members of
the 395th Ordinance Company would receive credit for a drill while
doing work in the Thousand Island area.
The work to be done has not been determined according to Francis Wedam,
the unit’s platoon and supply sergeant. Sgt. Wedam serves is a full-time police
officer for the City of Kaukauna.

Opposing coaches Bill
Danforth, Oneida and Len DeBroux, Kaukauna, got together for a post-game
conversation following a 4-2 Klubber loss to the visitors. Adding a few
comments of her own was Klubber “batgirl” Debbie DeBroux.
Ed Kaphingst, retired Friday after
31 years as a postal employee. He is shown sorted mail after returning from his
72-mile run through the south-eastern portion of the county.
A Canadian youth had the dubious honor of being
the first person prosecuted under the city’s newly adopted shoplifting
ordinance. The youth was found guilty and fined $30 Monday of the theft of a
pack of cigarettes from Willie’s Red Owl store on Third street.
Five Kaukauna Klubbers have been selected to
play for the Southern Division All Stars at Bonduel July 9 according to Klubber
coach Len DeBroux. Chuck Luehring - shortstop, Butch Vanden Heuvel – pitcher,
Yogi Vandenberg – outfielder, Quinn Vanden Heuvel – outfielder, Skip Larson –
second baseman.
July 14, 1972
About 35 persons who live within the two-mile
statutory limit of eligibility for bus transportation of their children to
Kaukauna schools presented a petition to members of the Board of Education
asking that the crossing of highway 55 as hazardous to students walking to
school and provide bussing in the interest of safety.
July 21, 1972
Wayne Vanevenhoven, a former college
student and US Army veteran, has been hired as a member of the Kaukauna Fire
Department to fill a vacancy.
Officials are investigating an attempted
burglary at Wiggie’s Food Center on Hendricks.
An attempted entry was reported at 1:45 am Thursday morning. A neighbor
heard glass breaking and apprehended the suspect in the alley and held him for
the police.

A new retail store, “Sew ‘n Sew”, opened on the
southeast corner of Second and Main, in the one-time Farmers and Merchants Bank
building. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Vander Loop are the proprietors.
