July 8, 1932
The Fourth of July was fittingly observed in
the city Monday. A huge crowd of local people and visitors crowded La Follette Park
during the day and everyone enjoyed a two-day picnic and elaborate
entertainment features presented by the Legion post.
Frankie, four-year-old
son of Mr. and Mrs. August Marx, was hit by an automobile on Lawe Street this
afternoon. He is believed to have suffered a broken shoulder and a badly
bruised head.
Charles E. Raught was elected president of
the Kaukauna Building and Loan Association at a meeting held last Monday.
July 12, 1932
Operation was begun
Thursday in the bag mill of Thilmany Pulp and Paper Company. The number of
employees in the bag mill has increased to approximately 30. When all machines
have been put into operation, this number will be increased to 50 or 60
persons.
July 15, 1932
Nearly one hundred
pigeons were shipped by members of the Kaukauna Pigeon Club to Preston,
Minnesota. The birds will be released from Preston early Sunday morning. The
distance to be traveled is 200 miles.
July 19, 1932
Jos. Staidl successfully defended his title of
club champion when he shot six strokes better than the runner-up Wm.
Harwood.
July 22, 1932
Due to the increased number of swimmers at the
fourth government Locks daily, Louis Jirikowic has been engaged as lifeguard
and is on duty until 10 pm.
July 29, 1932
Twenty-two Kaukauna boys will attend the Citizen’s Training Camps at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. The boys will be guests of the United States Government for the month of August. Some of the boys are going by automobile and train the balance will hitch-hike.
