It is estimated that a record 4,500 deer have been taken during the season which ended November 30. Seven hunters were killed this year due to firearms and fifteen were wounded. Two men are still reported missing. During the month of November, seven hunters were killed by small game firearms and eleven were wounded.

A couple of switch engines in the Appleton yards collided near the Tallulah park mills last Saturday morning, and the result returned to the Kaukauna shops for repairs.

Thirteen miners were killed, and a great damage was done by an accidental explosion of gas in a coal mine at Bonanza, Ark. There were about 175 men in the various shafts at the time of the accident.

The case of Fred Glaff versus the Chicago and northwestern railroad company was settled in the Circuit Court Tuesday. Both parties agreed with the court directed verdict of $300 in favor of the plaintiff. Glaff was injured while in employment of the company in 1895, while doing repair work under a car. Another car was kicked onto the same track which resulted in both of his legs being run over leaving him in a badly crippled condition.

Florence Boyer of DePere went to New York some time ago. There she met and married the son of a millionaire. When the young man's father found this out, he threatened to disinherit his son unless he immediately secured a divorce. The young man paid over to his wife the sum of $26,000 and they parted. Miss Boyer is expected to return soon to her old home.

One of our young men, under the disguise of St. Nicholas called at one of the residences of Main Street Sunday evening and received a warm reception but not in the manner expected. The lady, who responded to his knock, had a horror of tramps and did not wait to recognize the caller before emptying a bucket of ashes on his head. Blinded and confused and hastened onward by a motor in the shape of a ferocious dog St. Nick made a dash into the creek.

It is up to the police force to stop some of the tobogganing that is being practiced on the sidewalks of the city. Someone will be injured if the practice is not stopped, and the city will have to pay damages.

In spite of considerable rioting, the Chicago city railroad Friday successfully operated cars on the Wentworth Ave. line. Following this victory for the company the streetcar strikers and their sympathizers changed their tactics and prepared to demand the withdrawal of the police protection for the non-union employees of the traction company.

Roman Catholics will not be obliged to plan holiday feasts on the vegetarian plan this year even though Christmas and New Year's falls on the day meat is prohibited. The eating of meat on a Friday Christmas is permitted by a special law of the church, and it is reported that special dispensation by Pope Pius X, in observing the first pontificate, permits the Catholics to eat meat on New Year's.

Forced to move his wife and several small children from his home in Louisville because he could not pay the rent, Ben Fursting sought shelter in a lumber yard and was found the next day frozen to death.
