Dr. H. B. Tanner
A telegram received
here this morning told of the sad death of Dr. H. B. Tanner, former resident,
physician, editor, and mayor of Kaukauna. Dr. Tanner was 74 years of age and
passed away at his Eastland, Texas home this morning. Dr. Tanner had been seriously ill for nearly a
year. The announcement of his death touches the heart of almost every Kaukauna
resident and particularly those who knew him personally, those with whom he
worked and those who had any business or social connections with him. Dr.
Tanner was very influential in the development of Kaukauna, coming to this city
in July of 1880 to practice medicine after graduating from Indiana Medical
College in 1878. Since his removal to Texas, he has been in constant
correspondence with THE TIMES; frequently sending letters to comment on
happenings in Kaukauna which he read about in this paper. Funeral services will
be held in Eastland Tuesday afternoon at 3:00.

More than one hundred men are relieved of
activities in the Civil Works program here yesterday as the group was caught up
on the number of hours allotted according to Frank Charlesworth director of the
work program. Men laid off included those from families where more than one was
being employed, the younger workers unmarried men and those who have no dependents.

A check-up of health
authorities today in regard to the vaccination of all Kaukauna children for the
prevention of smallpox is now progressing rapidly and that many children have
seen their doctors. To date no cases of smallpox have been reported in this
city and it is hoped that the vaccine will keep the disease from this vicinity.

Jerry Vils
After trailing Kaukauna,
the entire game Neenah High School basketball team tied the score with less
than a minute left in the game and then went on to defeat the Kaws 21-20. Jerry
Vils was high for the Kaws, scoring four of five free throws.
Walt Disney, the creator of such
screen epics as Mr. and Mrs. Mickey Mouse and many others has been paid a great
honor by the Argentine consul at Los Angeles. The National Academy of Fine Arts
of Buenos Aires presented Disney with signatures from over a thousand directors
of the academy. They consider his work as high art as do many Americans.

Application will be
made for a charter for a new Boy Scouts of America Troop on the north side of
the city. The troop will be sponsored by the Kaukauna Knights of Columbus and
will hold meetings in the Holy Cross School hall.
Martin De Bruin has been convinced it isn't
safe to be in bed anymore as Tuesday morning about 1:30 am an automobile crashed
through the front of the building which he lives, the jar of which knocked his
dresser over and onto his bed where he was sound asleep. Four Menasha people
escaped injuries in the mishap which the car they were riding smashed into the
showroom window of the American Express office and caused several $100 damages.
